Are you in hiding from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the FBI, Scotland Yard, Interpol, or any other Law Enforcement Agency? If not, why don't you include the Location of your photographs/entries.

It is so interesting to learn of new places and buildings. But, it seems as though fewer members are adding Location info to their entries. It's so frustrating not to have new (to me) scenes/structures identified.

This is just my two-cents worth, but I wanted to let other photographers know that it would be more enjoyable for some of us to learn about where you took that picture or what the subject was.

Thanks.

Drives me mildly batty. FILL THE DATA IN! Have a heart, people! I love being able to travel vicariously.

Glad you brought that up, I often wondered why people didn't fill that section in as well, it's not that difficult, also why do some people keep their camera settings hidden?

i dont think its intentional, often times the exif is stripped when its processed.

Yes (for save for web) but there is a place to type in the location where the photo was taken. I wondered why people were so secretive, myself.

if i remember I'll put the location in if I feel its worth noting. i didn't think people cared if a portrait was taken in East Greenwich NJ or somewhere else that has no significant location of reference.

Now if i take an image where the location matters, like landscape of if a portrait has a distinguishable background, i usually enter it in.

I love reading locations, but even more so short comments on the scene.

From this time forward, if I do not list a location, assume the parking lot at Ikea.

I am, please don't tell anyone...

I've always been surprised that it is not a required field, since verification of valid date/time can be location-dependent. Note that if you are required to submit your original for validation you will need to provide this information, even if it is not shown on the photo's display page.

FWIW I always try to include a summary of the editing steps, focal length, and location along with the usual exposure data. This site is supposed to be about us helping each other become better photographers (see the "About" page), and there's a limited amount you can learn if all you can do is look at the image.

I always enter my pics under one of my many aliases.

I seem to recall, in the early days of DPC, there was a character who entered magnificent shots
of many spectacular places in Europe, naming each one, and winning ribbon after ribbon.

Until someone noted he must have had quite a hectic travel schedule to get them all taken in the
time slots available.

Even the most diligent search would probably not locate his account at this point.

I myself am in Witness Protection. Plus I don't want people to steal my amazing MO.

Yes I was, but that was a long time ago. However, your request is not unreasonable, so I labeled them.

I put locations when its taken somewhere cool or a major city shot. Other than that I skip it because I'm sure no one cares that I took a photo in my garage or living room. If I wrote my city (Ponchatoula) people would probably care less.

Yes, if he was the guy I recall I questioned one of his lovely shots using the light of a full moon. But it was a week with a new moon. OOPs.

Ooh, sounds cool...and if he ribboned so much, surely his winning entries are still in the archives? *pulling on white cotton gloves*

Yup, BrennanOB remembers well. That was back in the days when Drew & Langdon, and the rest of us, naively thought no one would prevaricate just to win a virtual ribbon.

Steps were taken.

You'd have to poke around in the early DQs to find the unsavory remains of that one, Snaffles.

Perhaps rubber rather than cotton gloves are in order ... ;-)

Good catch, but not the individual offering magnificent landscapes and historic sites.
:)

(Yeah, as you found, there were several, come to think of it.)
