So,

I'm currently downloading Phase One's RAW converter on the advice of Strobist.

Anyone else use this software? I'm rather excited to give it a go.

If you mean Capture One Pro 7. Excellent, a different mindset with filing but not impossible. Photoshop almost (kind of) becomes your effects plug in after that, though COP7 does work with layers (adjustment layers) your layer workflow will need PS. They had specials every few months (30% off). Use Amex you are redirected to using Dutch Kroner which, for aussies, makes it cheaper again.

I used to use it, I like it's color control much better than Adobe. But ease of workflow takes a hit with the extra step.

Definitely the best RAW convertor around. Easy to use once you've allowed yourself time to get familiar with it. There are plenty of excellent tutorials from Phase One.

From a quality of conversion standpoint, it is right there with the best of them. My experience with it goes back a couple or three versions, and I'm sure it has only gotten better. I prefer Lr, which is a better workflow integration tool, but C1 gets my respect.
