My taste in photography must have gone really bad or the blur is causing a lot of DNMCs? I didn't expect much but that's rather low.

So dropped a bit, but the comments are great, and I did try for something totally different, and I also submitted the wrong edited shot, lol don't you hate that, not sure if anyone will notice though!

After this image:

got a score of 3.89, the score of 4.82 in this challenge seems much too high.

Milky waves is a term used for these kind of waves in the mist. Lack of knowledge on the voters' part is not blatant DNMC!

PS I think the obsession with DNMC favors narrow minded interpretation of the challlenges leading to the repetitious boring entries.

Isolated and cryptic knowledge doe not make a photo meet the challenge either.

Regardless the theme was DAIRY. Not MILKY or MILK.

If you want to take an oddball risk go for it and be proud of your efforts not the score. It's a great photo but no dairy in sight.

Quit playing six degrees of separation with the theme.

My downhill slide 6.3889 to 6.0571 to 5.9286, that just mystifies me... Wonder how close I'll be to 4 in the morning.

I am really sorry but MILK is DAIRY. As was demonstrated on the winning photo. Actually, on all ribbons.
PS This re-enforces my earlier point re DNMC.

PS2 I am now puzzled that occasionally a really good photo gets a ribbon - is it an exception that proves the rule?

There are some great images in this challenge. It was interesting to see all of the different ways people used the motion blur.

But you still ignore that the term milky waves is esoteric. Without the title it would have scored even lower. Normal person judging with good intent looks at that photo and thinks "What the heck is this doing in here?"

If, as you're advocating, the voter should always give the benefit of the doubt to the entrant as to whether something meets the challenge then you just want free studies for everything. Silly.

Milk is dairy. Not all dairy is milk. And I reinforced nothing except that if you take a shot that requires any explanation or translation to how it fits the theme then you do so knowing full well you're going to take some hits. So be it. We all do.

I'm shocked but happy it scored so low. We have DNMC entries winning all the time around here.

Most of the winners are really good photos so I don't get your point. You wrongly think that people are looking for any reason to vote down a photo and that does not seem to be the case at all. To punish better photos with a low score. That's just silly. If its good and meets the challenge in the yes of the voter it will do well.

ETA: What I mean by it being dairy vs. milk. If it were milk, then your image would be a shoehorn, but would have met the challenge because some people might know those are called "milky waves". But for dairy, the clear set in stone definition is that it has to do with dairy, not indirectly related to something indirectly related to dairy. The connection of those waves to dairy is just as indirect as if someone shot a photo of motor oil and then defended it by saying motor oil is used in tractors, and tractors are used on a dairy, so there!
