Richard -- I'm really sorry you got caught up in this disaster. From this report and photo from NASA it seems 20 or so of your neighbors have suffered a similar misfortune. :-(

Thanks for the link to that excellent report. Much appreciated. I'll propagate that because it is so science-based.... Less hysterical.
I have more photos, but they are sooooooo depressing, I'll hold them back.

And, tonight's news is sobering. Huge evacuations near CO Springs. And, a lightning initiated fire above the Flatirons, near Boulder. You know things are serious when the ptb call in the big guns... C-130 hercules galaxies. The CO fires are about to become an election issue.

We need rain.

I have a lot of stories to tell. Will wait for HSInternet access, because I'm illiterate with thumb typing. 2 more days!

All-time record high temp in Denver, today! Yikes!

Denver has had 5 straight days of triple digit temps and each day has been a record temp. Another small thunder storm passed by today causing lightning and causing the new fire in the backyard of Boulder, the Flagstaff fire. Like Richard stated, they have pulled out the huge equipment to put this one out as fast as they can. It's on the west side of the famous Flatirons south of Boulder. No structures burned yet. I can look out my study window and see the smoke from the Waldon Canyon fire turning the sky a dark orange and if I walk to the upper part of my neighborhood, I can see the Boulder fire. Too close!

Richard, sorry to hear about your home, our prayers go out to you and everyone one out there being affected by all these fires. Anyone know a good rain dance, if so a good 2 or 3 days of solid rain would be nice.

Numerous structures have been lost in Colorado Springs this evening. The wind turned and the fire blew up. They are reporting 32,000 people now evacuated in Colorado Springs. Cellphone communication is jammed and they have asked people to stop using their phones so the emergency crews can use the resources. They are calling this a firestorm of epic proportions - unprecedented destruction. We have watched a number of homes in the Mountain Shadows area burn. This fire moved so quickly this afternoon, it overwhelmed the fire crews in place for mitigation. Colorado Springs had it's all time ever high temperature today - with 45-50 mph winds. I-25 is closed southbound at Interquest (the northern part of Springs). The Air Force Academy is being evacuated and personnel are being welcomed at Ft. Carson (in the southern part of Springs). They have some amazing footage right now of homes fully engulfed in flames with emergency vehicles and crews in their midst still fighting those fires. Tomorrow is supposed to be as hot as today with more gusty winds. Please stay safe everyone....

I hadn't posted any pictures I had from the fire near me due to having an image in voting, but here are a few. Nothing special, but gives everybody a bit of an idea...

Ouch! Sorry to hear about your loss Richard. It was scary enough to watch my neighbor's house burn down last month. I can't imagine when it's your own or the entire neighborhood. :-(

Damn Richard, Sorry to read what happened. My prayers go out to you and your family and all the others involved. If there is anything I can do, please don't be afraid to ask.

So sorry to hear Richard, and everyone else involved. I can't imagine.

Here's a neat look at the fire. Watch closely and you can see slurry drops on the far peak and helicopters buzzing around the foreground smoke (assuming they are dropping water).

Sorry to hear about your house and neighborhood Richard. :(

This was taken near Telluride Colorado which was blanketed in smoke from a fire in Mancos CO. it made for some wildly colored reflections from the sun in the water.

Posted this in the "new uploaded photo" thread and figured I'd post it here too.

I've been kinda out of the loop on dpc for a few days, so I am just seeing this - Richard, I am so sorry that this effected you. I had thought of you and some others when I heard about the fires, but was hoping it wasn't in your area. :(

Very Sad to read this Richard! my thoughts are with you and all the others affected by the fires!

So very sorry to hear this sad news Richard. But glad to hear your family got out okay as well as some of your things.

I haven't been through the same- home is some place special. But I have had my business burned to the ground. You will be in shock for a while I am sure, but you'll get through it and things will get better.

Hang in there!

Richard so sorry to read this. Thank goodness you and your family made it out to safety. Material things can be replaced, and will be in time. Just hold onto one another and know you have friends here.

Richard- wow, sorry to hear of this terrible news. As many others have said, wishing you peace and a a strong comeback.

Thanks, everyone, for the words of comfort. It does mean a lot to me. I'm exceptionally grateful and humbled to hear from my DPC friends during this time of extreme stress.

We've had a few rain showers. Those really helped. I had to put down my 13 yr. old golden retriever. Her health was failing anyway, and the stress of the fire trauma pushed her downhill fast. She was my best friend and I will miss her forever. I have no words for losing Maggie.

The Waldo Canyon fire near Colorado Springs is now the biggest (financial loss) fire in the history of Colorado, with 364 homes destroyed. My heartfelt condolences go out to those victims of wildfire. I'm hoping the weather pattern has changed. I'll be optimistic based on the last 24 hours of cooler temps and scattered showers.

When I buried my dog yesterday on the mountainside above my home, I did not encounter any soil moisture 5 feet down in the earth. So, the drought is severe and dangerous. Maggie.... rest in peace.

I am back online with a DSL service at the home of a friend. (DSL would not be my first choice of Internet services.) Still a refugee from the wildfire devastation in all respects. Let's hope the disaster is in the ending chapters, but I fear otherwise. I have photos, but nothing to match the headline stories on the national news. Business has dropped to 50% of normal, as people fear traveling to the front range of the Rockies "on fire".

Tonight, Helen and I will attend a community meeting for those who've lost their home. In attendance will be all the government and social agencies who may be able to offer some kind of assistance. I suspect this will be repeated in many communities up and down the front range of Colorado.

Aawww. Poor Maggie. I cried for you. The house you can replace, the friend, not so much. I'm so sorry Richard.

Truly, better times must be now at hand.

All my best.

Richard, I'm so, so sorry to hear of the loss of you home and your beloved companion, Maggie. I hope there is assistance for all of you who have suffered so much because of the fires.

Aw, Richard, that's just too much. I hope I'd be as steadfast, in the face of such travails, as you are proving to be. Be strong, friend.

R.
