My absence over the past couple of months has been due to preparations for my first solo show, which opened last Thursday in Mexico City. I've written a brief blog post about it, with a link to some photos of the space the day after. More images of the opening itself will be added when I get them, as I did not take a camera to the opening :-)

I'm now preparing for my SECOND solo show, just a few weeks from now, opening June 23 in the Mojave. These have been crazy, fabulous times.

Gallery looks beautiful.

I want to hear about the lessons you learned!
05/28/2012 04:38:19 PM · #3
Hehehe, you would!

The biggest lesson was about printing. Unless absolutely impossible (which in this case it was), I should not give the responsibility of approving the prints to someone else. Other lessons were specific to my publicity team and had to do with procedure and etiquette.

I'd love to come out and see the Mojave showing. Maybe I'll get some time for it. :)

Congratulations, Johanna. I would love the opportunity to go to a show and see prints of your work. Let me know when you have your first show in Chicago -- I suspect it will not be long.

Thank you guys, you're my family. And every one of you helped me get here. I am not being sarcastic or exaggerating the importance of all your feedback and support over the past couple of years. So I hope you feel as proud of this achievement as I do.

Wow, Mexico City! You must be so proud, well done! How did you get the prints made up, on matboard or what? How did they attach to the wall?
05/29/2012 02:12:06 PM · #22
@ Heather - more astounded than proud, LOL! I was immensely fortunate to have had Hewlett Packard as one of my sponsors, and they did all the printing. The images were then laminated on some sort of board (stiffer than foam core), and have an aluminum frame on the back. The gallery used nails in the wall on which the frames were placed.

Big congrats Johanna! Very deserving; you and your work are first class.

Congrats! Looking at the blog the building looks great and the photos (view from the entrance, I presume) seems to be very interesting. Mexico City, Mojave. Guess the next step is New York and Amsterdam :)

LOL! Well, in keeping with the meme, perhaps Morocco!!! But sure, NY, Amsterdam... bring 'em on!
