I just got a phone call from a certified technician of Windows. Apparently a virus was detected on my computer, and he thought he'd give me a call to help me out. It turned out he wasn't very polite. :-(

Here's the video I made of the phone call.

Check it out. :-D

Never mind the swearing...... he didn't take care of your virus !!!!!!!!

So what was the scam? You should have followed along for real so we could see what he was going to claim was proof of your virus, and what he was going to sell you to get rid of it!

I thought your cat was going to knock over the phone for you.

What a wonderful thing to do - fun!

Recently I've found a really good way of dealing with unwanted phone calls - answer the phone with
"Oh please God, not ANOTHER telemarketer!"

Your friends laugh and talk to you, the telemarketers have inevitably hung up.

Ah, I hadn't heard of this...but I found a video related to yours and they took it further. After they walk you through event viewer and try to convince the system "uninformed" that all those pretty normal errors are horrible things on your system, they try to get you to go to their website, which is one of those fake antivirus apps. Then that downloads malware, and eventually, they get your credit card one way or another (like some people actually dumb enough to buy the antivirus).

The problem with leading them on though seems to be, they are too dumb to know it.

LOL! I got a similar phone call last week from a Windows technician who detected a virus on my computer. Apparently they failed to detect that I don't own a computer running Windows.

I have had 3 of these calls. First time I let them chat for a bit then told them I worked in a I.T. dept so they hung up. Second time I told them to f**k off and the last time I told them I did not have a computer so they apologised for ringing me.

These people are lower than scum in my opinion

This man in Australia led them on for ages - well worth watching Indian Virus Scam

I'm disappointed that the phone connection was so terrible, I may have been able to joke around and lead him on for a long time. If it ever happens again, I'll do it in front of a computer so I can goof around more instead of stalling and waiting for him to lead me to the answers he wants. :-(

It showed up on my call display as "Private Number". To me, that means "Possible Antics".

They are scum & thieves. I wasn't exactly sure of the entire scam, but that video you link is a good example.

Make a video! It's actually a good opportunity, because you have the excuse of having to boot up your computer to get your camera ready. I wish I'd relaxed and taken a bit more time, but I was all hyper.

I'm on the Do Not Call list (which is pretty meaningless), and because I've been on VOIP for years, my phone number is unlisted. I wonder how they got my number? Random???

We used to get a bunch of these calls, "ma'am we are calling from windows support, you have a virus on your PC" And I would tell them "Impossible!" and they would argue that I did, and then I would tell them "we have macs only" and they would hang up. But we still got calls, so finally I said "This is a scam, call me again and I will call police" and I never heard from them again.

I got a similar call last week. A woman with the same accent.
I asked for her full name, and phone number, so that I could call her back. She gave them to me, and I continued.
I live in Quebec, and I asked her if she spoke French. As expected, she said no. I asked her why Microsoft didn't have any technician who speak French. She told me that they were all in vacation on that day. I laughed and hung up.

I didn't find something about the name and phone number on Google, as expected.

I didn't think of it, but I should have called the police to report the fraud attempt.
