There aren't any parks or rivers in Houston?

I just think a landscape kinda requires a horizon of some sort... offhand I cannot think of a place that I could get that without a building or something like that. No biggie... I need to figure out a way to offend someone with my Humor photo! hehe

Drive an hour to the coast!

Sure to get something either there, or on the way.

Have you SEEN the Gulf of Mexico o'er these neck o' the woods? That's guaranteed low votes just for the brown water!

Mmmm brown water. I've never been to Texas but there's bound to be something to shoot. Too bad this weeks challenge isn't Pimps and Hos. I think you'd win that challenge.

Try making it into a sepia-tone -- it will look "on purpose" then. The challenge doesn't specify a minimum number of colors...

I would even call this dpchallenge entry a kind of landscape. Don't be to bothered about scoring, just have fun!

Cityscape is a kind of landscape to me.

Hello all,

I have been reading the various forum postings about what constitutes a landscape, as I am trying to submit a picture that will not be considered off topic, so I have been looking at various dictionaries to get the definition of the word. Here is what I have found.

Oxford Universal Dictionary: Landscape: A picture representing inland scenery, as distinguished from a sea picture, a portrait, etc.

Grosset Webster Dictionary: Landscape: A portion of territory which can be comprehended in a single view.

Merriam-Webster: Landscape: A picture representing a view of inland scenery.

Your Dictionary.com: Landscape: An expanse of scenery that can be seen in a single view. A picture depicting an expanse of scenery.

If you ask me, there is nothing in these definitions that would rule out cityscapes (a specific kind of landscape) or ones including rivers, barns, sunsets, birds, brown grass or water, etc.

Just shoot what is around you and submit. It's all part of the fun. Even the 1's.

P.S. If I'm wrong, and everybody disagrees with this view, then maybe we could take pride in going for the most 1's received in a single challenge. LOL

Just drive on down to Matagorda Bay, south of Bay City. (Only about an hour away from the west side of Huston. Drive-on beaches there. Take pictures of the dunes. You don' need no steenking water.

Or... Do a cityscape. I'm not voting cityscapes down. They are the land somefolks live in.

I think of Landscape as anything outside, Just a large expanse of land, sea, air, sky, anything! Won`t be voting down on buildings etc, even if others do!

Just have fun with it, don't worry about the 1s...I won't be voting buildings any different than trees...find something that is intresting, it doesn't have to be beautiful...the water doesn't have to be clean...just show us your landscape

I live near the city and the country. I had to decided which to do - cityscape or something else. I love the cityscape idea!

Well, I submitted to Landscape.. Probably isn't the classic definition of a landscape, but I had to try.. and in the city it is difficult at best to find a landscape shot. To those in the city who did find a better one I can't wait to see them! ;0)

Got nothing here... Been cloudy, foggy, hazy, and or rainy all week. Nothing I had in mind seemed to work.

Got nothing for humor, either... sigh.... Guess I got photographer's block.

Oh, well... I still do enjoy just seeing the efforts of others. Will be a good opportunity to learn.

ok come on now bamaster there is plenty to shoot around here....you just got to know where to look (or crawl).

The botaniacl gardens near Memorial park is nice....there is a pond back a ways on a nice trail....

I know it does not sound so nice..but buffalo bayou near downtown or west of downtown in the Heights could turn out a pic or 2. I pass by it all the time but never stop to go wandering under the bridge.
