OK, we have a lot of possibilities here?

1. Capture someone laughing
2. Capture someone doing something funny
3. Capture both of the above in the same frame

Which is most appropriate to meet the challenge??

hey! Never criticize a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.

That way you'll be a mile away and you'll have his shoes.

i think one should take a picture of something funny that makes the viewer of the picture 'laugh'.

This is from a website I found searching on Google for "Humorous Photos" (in quotes).

"You need a discerning eye to latch onto a segment of the human comedy and capture it on film. How do you develop that visual sense of humor? There's no formula for it. Each individual has a different "fun" threshold. Some lean toward broad comedy, the pie-in-the-face kind. Others have a sly wit that perceives fun and humor in human imperfections. Still others are fascinated by the plentiful supply of man-made kitsch that surrounds us everywhere.

One way to create a humorous photo is to conceive an incongruous situation where you juxtapose visual elements in a way that is unlikely or ridiculous."

Here is some of my own brainstorming:

maybe a funny sign. a funny animal. someone stuck in a hole. a visual recreation of a pun or a bumper sticker(i.e. "Visualize Whirled Peas" could be some peas in a blender; "My Kid Beat Up Your Honor Student", something like that. . . ) .. Do a joke as a photo...

This is funny, because about half my photo end up in the Humor Gallery, but I don't usually set out to do it on purpose!

This week for the humor challenge, I let the smile/laugh/zygomatic factor play in the immediate response, then on a second level (letting the picture making its way if I coud say so).
If it made me laught I have been passing on the imperfection if any. But still taking the quality in account. This week a boring perfectly done shot get a 4 in this challenge, while if I smiled it gets a 6 ven with some imperfections.
I know its subjective ...
And I actually have been suprised in a good way .. I was expecting a boring voting on that (sorry ;-) ) and actually I think I smiled at at least a 1/3 of them.
You know what .. I am happy we did that challenge even if my boring current 4.6 does not make me smile that muc ;-) ;-)

too bad the comments you leave on photos aren't as well thought out as your post here.

Yes I know ... I just went though them. I will try to go back.
the problem is that .. it's not easy to explain when it does not make you smile ... not easy at all ....
...
I went back looking at some that I did not give a good note and .. I could comment on the photo tself but not really on the humor part of it. That's so hard !

you don't HAVE to comment on every photo. i comment on most but there are always some that just do nothing for me, and i have nothing to say about them which is fine
