I haven't heard any mention of the Big Living Room for a couple of years now, so I don't know if it is or not.

Sneetch Beach? That's a new one for me. What/where is it?

As far as where we are meeting.....I suppose that's up to the OP but he hasn't posted in awhile. I sure would like for him to get this organized.

I'm glad to hear that you are coming. Hopefully you can get the other ladies to come also.

Forgive me for the late responses guys! I have been pretty busy on my end!

A slight change in my personal plans has come up as mandatory practice has been announced for Sunday the 15th. I will only be able to make Saturday the 14th.

I don't know Miami all that well so I was hoping for someone to step in with some ideas. I think though that a good start would be lunch. This would act as both a meeting place and also a good "get to know each other" time. Then we can do an all afternoon and maybe night time photo walk throughout the city area.

Like I said, I don't know Miami all that well, in fact I rarely go down there. With that being said, someone in the Miami area should suggest an easy to find restaurant for meeting up. yakatme, would you care to make a final decision on that being that it seems like you know the area more than I do?

As for Sunday the 15th, although I won't be able to make it I think that two days in the city is a bit much and suggest it to be an Everglades photo walk. That will be more up to the people who are attending Sunday so I will leave that open for suggestions and such.

If I left anything out with this post let me know and we can discuss it.

I'm out for tomorrow's GTG. There is too much happening here. I have a shooting pal cousin who will be here Thurs and Friday, and we plan to shoot most of the day Friday. Then I will be planning to do the Miami run Saturday. Doing this Sunday, then Friday and Saturday would be just too much in one week, since photography is just a hobby for me. I sure will feel like I have missed out on an opportunity to meet some of my fav DPC'ers this Sunday though.

Tis seems the 14th is looking best as the target date for most. IF I remember correctly Johanna tanguera's brother is the owner of a restaurant on Lincoln Road in South Beach. Maybe we should meet for lunch there? I'll have to ask her what the name is again. Lincoln Road I believe is near all the art deco district (am I correct on this?) and of course not to far from the South Pointe Park as well...

No such place Robert, tis me just being a bit silly - of course if we all wear shirts with stars on our bellies and walk around the beach THEN it could become a real place for a day;-)

Yikes, this is the first time I've seen this thread.

I would like to join the group, but I can only do it on Sunday the 15th. Glades, Keys, or Miami are fine with me. If it is Miami, I'd like to carpool with someone, as I don't know my way around there, and find the traffic intimidating.

Got word back from Johanna. O.K. I was right that tanguera's brother is owner of Ice Box Cafe on Michigan street, just north of Lincoln. If we are doing Miami Beach as the GTG, do we want to make that the meeting place for lunch?

Is there any place to park out there, or do we need to charter a limo for the event * ha ha ? Seriously, maybe we should be thinking about car pooling out there from Miami if parking is the way I remember it out at the beach.
I'm bummed about not being able to drive over to see everyone tonight, but it's just too much to go the 200 mile round for a dinner only meeting, plus there is a lot going on here right now.
I certainly hope to be there the 14th with everyone for the day and evening.

O.K. I did some research on the internet (gotta love the internet - especially love that little yellow person icon feature which you can drag onto the street on google maps for a street picture view).

How about this as a possible suggestion for Saturday Jan. 14

Miami Beach Botanical Gardens(Free)
Google Maps Location

Just across the street is Holocaust Memorial on Miami Beach (Free)Google Map Location

Hop on a bus to hop off at 15th and Ocean Drive to start walking the Miami Walking Tour Art Deco District and while walking around on Ocean Drive we could also hit the Art Deco Lifeguard stations on the beach that is just on the other side of the street. This website lists the locations and pictures of the funky lifeguard stations.

Hop back on the bus at 5th or 4th street and Ocean Drive and travel several blocks down to South Pointe Park Free Google Map Location where it has winding paths and scenic view of the ocean which supposedly cruise ships pass by.

Oh and for the parking....Well I wonder if Cory could come in on the parking issue:

As far as the OP's idea- I should be in town over that weekend, so I'd say there's a pretty good chance I'd be in..

I can also offer my services as a guide to the Wynwood Art District here.. Saturdays are really busy, and it's a place where a group of photographers wouldn't be seen as too big of a deal.

Oh, and I could provide a day parking pass for the South Beach zone 2 area for up to about 10 people, and I could also make a bit of a guide here if people are into that, although for food and drinks the Midtown area has a couple of really great spots for a group like this to grab food & drinks, which are priced FAR more reasonably than stuff over here on the beach is, parking is also much easier.. :)

And the Wynwood Art District looks like another cool thing to do

The 14th it is then.

I'm on a mobile phone trying to type with my huge thumbs so I'll get back to this thread with a detailed itinerary considering the recent suggestions when I get back to my computer. I'm going to meet up with Alan and Manic in Homestead first. I'll see about posting again tonight or tomorrow morning at the latest.

@ Cory: Could you please address the parking issue in the Lincoln Road area. Thanks.

I just returned from a nice dinner with alanfreed, Manic, and Cory. Cory has graciously offered his home on Miami Beach as the meeting place to kick of our GTG on Saturday the 14th at 11:00a.m. Cory will provide his address at a later time (I don't have it yet).

He will also arrange for parking passes for up to ten vehicles in a safe neighborhood so everyone can feel comfortable with parking.

The plan is to meet at Cory's home for introductions and then go to lunch. If tanguera was attending then I would certainly agree to go to her brother's place for lunch but I am not ruling it out either. Cory suggested a place (can't remember the name) that is close by to his house that has an extensive menu of small sandwiches for $2 to $3 each that would allow great flexibility for a variety of appetites and tastes.

Normally when I plan a GTG, I consider everybody's ideas and quickly establish a firm plan. However, we don't have much time left to discuss the finalizing of the itinerary so I am left with two choices: 1) Make the decisions now, post them, and that's it, or, 2) Decide the meeting place, the date and time, and then we can all decide as we go.

I have decided to establish the starting point of this GTG so that everybody can at least have an idea of what to expect.

We are going to Miami Beach on Saturday, January 14.
We will meet at Cory's house at 11:00 a.m. He will PM the address to each attendee.
Lunch will be at a nearby sandwich shop called
100 Montaditos Brewery
After lunch we will carpool to the nearby Wynwood arts district. Cory knows this area well.
We can discuss other ideas and points of interest during the lunch and plan from there.

CNovack has posted some great suggestions. Take a look at her post and let me know what sounds good to each of you. I'd like to hear in the next day or two what you want to do and then we can decide if we want a firm itinerary or if we just want to discuss it and finalize at Cory's house and during lunch.

We are almost at the last minute here so please post back about what you would like to see in the Miami Beach and Eastern Miami area.

Yes, all of that sounds very good. :)

The sandwich shop is 100 Montaditos, really great little place.

We've got a ton of options here, but I really do want to be sure to get the Wynwood district in for everyone, it's by FAR the most visually stunning.

Otherwise? Whatever, we can do this however we please.

I will PM my address to all who are attending, but it's basically dead-center of South Beach for planning purposes.

I will bring camera and appetite, get there, and roll with the flow. It's all going to be new territory to me, except the Miami Beach Marina dock area, which I have visited by boat, so any place that we go to shoot will be fine for me.
Just meeting everyone, sharing stories and shooting pix will be the big fun part of this event for me.

I looked up more info on the Wynwood District and it is definitely visually stunning in some parts - there is an open market on Saturdays in the Arts District which could make for some interesting street photography (are the artist's out at work or is it just that they are out selling there wares?)

I would be up for any of the places I mentioned in an earlier post as well.

So from what I gather it is just

Based on the recent posts I have come up with a plan that I think we can go with.

We are going to Miami Beach on Saturday, January 14.
We will meet at Cory's house at 11:00 a.m. He will PM the address to each attendee and provide parking passes.
Lunch will be at a nearby sandwich shop called
100 Montaditos Brewery (If you can't read spanish, just click on Nuestra Carta for pictures. This place has an extensive menu of small sandwiches for $2 to $3 each that would allow great flexibility for a variety of appetites and tastes.)
After lunch we will carpool to the nearby Wynwood arts district. Cory knows this area well.
We can discuss other ideas and points of interest during the lunch and plan from there.

Other possible sites: Art Deco walking tour (organized or do it on our own), Lincoln Road Mall (outdoor area of cafes, great for people watching and street photography), cool lifeguard towers, South Pointe Park, Holocaust Memorial, and more. This GTG does not yet have an ending time and I'm not sure that we need to establish one. I think that this itinerary would make for a great get together as is and we can simply decide on where to go after we hit the Wynwood area. As Waddy said, it will be a good time to simply spend some time together shooting as well as sharing photos and conversation,

Yes, these are the DPC'ers who seem to be certain of attending:

Cory
yakatme
mbrutus2009
MelonMusketeer
CNovack

Here are the "maybe's" for now:
Manic
rox_rox

I've PM'd a couple more DPC'ers including a few who haven't been around for awhile.

This all sounds good to me!

I want to apologies for not really being too active these last few weeks on this. I have been pretty busy as well as sick.

I agree with Waddy as well about this being a great time to share photos and stories along with just being around people who enjoy the same hobby as I do.

I can't wait! :)

As I mentioned on Sunday night (which was great fun, thanks guys), I definitely want to go, but I still can't guarantee that I'll be able to. Consider me still a solid maybe :)

Tempting, Robert. Saturday nights are a working day for me. I have to be in Boca by 3pm. Too bad I didn't know sooner. I miss hanging with photo people.

If you want to share your photos, we can have a slide show on my monitor while we wait for everyone to show up - just bring a SD or CF card with your photos that you want to share on it.

Thanks for being such a great host, Cory. I'd like to see what some of us would like to show and tell.
