I just found an article about a new Panasonic commercial which plays on the question of whether it's the camera or the photographer.

I know they say a workman's only as good as his tools, but you still have to know how to use the tools first. There's always going to be better quality tools, but no point in getting them til you realize what they're capable of, and how to use them so you get the most out of them.

What you said.

How did the guys from 80+ years ago ever get a decent shot of anything?! Their tools were primitive compared to even the most basic P&S nowdays.

Now that you mention it... Food at your place is always great. I've got the Canon 40D like you, but still need the stove. What brand is it again?

Like I have said in the past "All photographers own a camera, however, not all camera owners are photographers!"

It's the person behind the camera.

ok, it really depends. the photographer obviously has to have some level of skill depending on the photograph he's taking. You cant capture a bird in flight 100 ft away with a point and shoot and put it into nat geo..
but anyone can take a picture on a street, make at all b&w and "Artsy," and some people will like it..
just depends on the subject and use.
