With 2011 being the 35th anniversary of the formation of one of the greatest, if not THE greatest rock band, surely it's about time we had a U2 song and/or lyrics challenge here on DPC.

Examples of possible songs that could be used:

- One Tree Hill
- Where the Streets Have No Names
- Running to Stand Still
- I Threw a Brick Through a Window
- Sunday Bloody Sunday
- Indian Summer Sky
- Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses
- Daddy's Gonna Pay for Your Crashed Car
- City of Blinding Lights
- No Line on the Horizon

And lyrics:

- "You got to cry without weeping, talk without speaking, scream without raising your voice..."
- "a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle"
- "You've been all over, and it's been all over you"
- "You stop in for a pack of cigarettes. You don't smoke, don't even want to, Hey now, check your change."
- "You ask me to enter, but then you make me crawl,"
- "Have you come here to play Jesus to the lepers in your head?"
- "Time is a train, makes the future the past. Leaves you standing in the station, you're face pressed up against the glass."

The last call for such a challenge fell on deaf ears, it would appear... a few years have passed, now let's right that wrong and have this challenge... it's overdue.

I thought AC/DC is the greatest.

Would be neat

AC/DC are great... and a good topic for another challenge, another time... but U2 surely deserves a go.

So... nobody other than Tiberius and I see merit in this challenge suggestion? :(

I think that just like this one I am surprised it has not been done.
I was too late for the Pink Floyd and Beetles challenges, I entered the John Lennon challenge. I love the music based ones, they are fun!

Would you still enter? Knowing that your picture would flop?

I hate U2 as well (sorry, Vlado) but i would still enter (if i could create an image that portrays both tax-evasion and a kind of pseudo-religious vacuity.)

But as with the other band challenges, the challenge would be:

Choose one line or title from a U2 song and make it come to life in a photograph. The title or lyric will form your title.

So, it won't be a prerequisite to like U2 or their music...

They have such a huge catalog of music, that even if you had no musical taste and were say, a Tool fan,(lol!) you could still find some great titles to inspire you, such as listed before, or

Bullet the Blue sky
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Pride
Zoo Station
All I need is you
Angel of Harlem
Refugee
Two hearts beat as one
Forty
I will follow

etc.
Good suggestion.

'Girl with scarlet nails/Jesus round her neck' kinda vacuity?

May I suggest an old fashioned one or the other type of challenge? In one corner the pretty boys of U2 and their commercially accessible pop. In the other corner the (now sadly defunct) Pogues, by no means pretty at all, described often as 'the Chieftains in a train wreck' and got far less radio play (over here anyway). I was lucky enough to see them play the Music Hall in Toronto before it got bought out and transformed into MuchMusic. They stared straight ahead at the crowd, no fake buddying-up onstage, no pyro, no lights, no strippers, no inflatables, nothing. Just 8 or 9 guys dressed in black and white playing and singing their guts out. By far the best and most memorable concert I ever attended.

Both bands tackled historical events, Irish and otherwise, in their own way; U2 did Sunday Bloody Sunday. Ha. Pales next to virtually anything by The Pogues. Even after several thousand listens I still get goosebumps when I hear Wake of the Medusa. And the story behind THAT song, friends, is something else.

How about only old u2 song lyrics? That was good.
Their current stuff... its at the Edge of unnecessary. But seriously, new stuff notsomuch.

The songs under the name U2 are very nice. It is an Irish rock which formed in 1976 in Dublin, Ireland. This is the greatest selling alternative rock act of all the time, having sold 140 million albums world wide as of 2008. I had viewed some of the songs in the U2 lyrics edition. They had presented 181 different U2lyrics and remixes all listed in alphabetical order. Besides of U2 song we can also browse th images /album covers. We can choose to translate U2 lyrics to different languages.
