DPChallenge has given me so much over the years
I have learned so much and have been time and again awed by the huge wealth of talent on this site

I want to publicly thank a couple of members who exemplify the spirit that is found in the people on this site.

Here is my story

Last Saturday I set about preparing for one of my annual dance school shoots. The shoot was scheduled for Sunday morning
I picked up my lights and softboxes and various flooring and background materials. I was pretty much set up by around 6:30 Pm

In an effort to change my set ( I wanted the look to be like the dancers were on stage, dramatic lighting and a very black background)
I knew that I would need help with the setup so I called on the DPC lighting GURU lvicari
I was fortunate to not only get help from Leo but Max quigley also arrived to help.

As I stated I had already set up my background and floor ... The only problem was (remember I want a black background for that on stage look)
my floor was black, however i had a paper background which was very white.

It did not take many test shots with the aforementioned GURU for me to realize I either need another GURU (LOL) or we better come up with a better plan.
As hard as we tried to vary the light set up, we could not get the background to go black. The dance studio we were in was all white so the light, when we took a shot, bounced all over the place.
It was getting late and the possibility of getting the desired look was becoming very bleek. The three of us brainstormed as to how can we get a black background at this late hour.
I think it was like 10:30 Saturday nite. Leo suggested painting the wall black but there really was no store open and not enough time.

Max finally looked at me and with a mock clip behind the ears and stated the following: Your a roofer Cole! Your truck is outside! There are rolls and rolls of tarpaper in it!

And with that we had a black background.

These two guys stayed and helped me until almost midnight . In the end I was able to achieve the setup I desired and the shoot went Sunday without a hitch

So here is my very HUGE thanks to Leo and Max for their patience and lighting knowledge and their help in a tough situation

Thanks again guys

These are from the final set up

Very nice shots!

Just by coincidence, I just got back from a dance studio shoot about 20 minutes ago. I used a 10 foot by 20 foot white backdrop that extended forward onto the floor. This was the makeup day so I used the same setup that I used for the original shoot in which everybody really liked the pictures.

I love your setup, however. Black looks great, especially with the reflective floor.
