"Empty Room II"

Does anyone here actually have an empty room laying around?
I mean, I'de MAYBE be willing to move my furniture out of a room and use it for the shoot... but i'm in college, and moving everything out of my 10 by 10 room would probably take a few days... if not weeks.

The challenge says bring one thing into the room and your camera... how much 'other clutter' can/should there be?
Maybe pick an empty classroom?

I think it's gonna be REALLY hard to define "empty" in this context, yup. For example, if I locate a derelict building and find a room with heaps of trash in it, I'd call that an "empty" room but others might not. You could try to find out if there are any rooms being painted right now, in your college; those would have drop cloths draped on furniture, a nice take on "empty" I think...

Previous Empty Room Challenge

I'd suggest that your room be as empty as possible or you risk low votes from DNMC voters.

I haven't decided if I am going to enter this challenge yet. The last one got me my lowest score ever and when I took all the furniture out of my living room I put a huge scratch in the hardwood floor from dragging the couch.

The creation of an empty room is a goal of mine, a very long term goal. Perhaps we could have 5 or 10 years to enter this challenge. although once I have completed the empty room I may have given up the camera.

LOL, think I might have something for this.

Ah Van Hagar...

"World turns black and white... Pictures in an empty room..."

Just move the stuff to the other side of the room. Unless you're doing a panorama, no one will see the WHOLE room. You could even use a walk-in closet.

For you in college, ask the RA if there is an empty room you can use for the shoot.

Go to a new home subdivision where they have "OPEN HOUSES" -- there are usually some that are undecorated. You have to only carry your camera and a single item.

At last... a challenge for realtors and new home buyers... exactly what I was waiting for!

With advanced editing I can just clone everything out of my full room, right? ;-)

But seriously, does "a single item" mean "1" thing, or would a flower in a vase get DNMC?

Ha, I know exactly what you mean as I have a similiar plan. Empty Room VIII or XV might work.

I would consider a flower in a vase to be a single item.

Well, this is a tough one. If it were one "subject", I'd say you were okay. One "thing" is gonna be iffy. I would lean toward not DNMC you for a flower and a vase, but for those nitpickers I would say it needs to be a single attached unit (sounds like a house). Flowers with petals attached would be one thing. Flower in a vase would be two.

Model with clothes is several things. Nude model (while unnecessary) would be one thing.

However, in the winning image last time there are two things. The dress and the hanger. So I guess people were generous and treated it as a single "subject" or unit.

There are self-storage places all over the USA now (I've heard at least several square feet for every resident) -- you can probably find an empty unit you can "borrow" for a few minutes at one of those. You could also try a public restroom, though you'll probably get some funny looks ... ;-)

Your nude model is also host to several trillion bacteria -- just because they don't show up in the frame doesn't mean they aren't there. Besides, if your model is breathing, the room is full of air, too ... :-(

I say that if you can grab it in one hand and carry it into the room, it's one "thing" ...

I don't know why people insist on looking so hard for ways to make it complicated, and to find excuses to vote perfectly fine pictures lower; what's the point?

But by the time you shoot it it will have to be stuffed with something ... sounds yummy.

Something tells me that plan may stall.

You're said you are a student. Maybe the stage is empty in your school theater.

Hey, I was just analyzing his question -- I said I'd have considered it a single item -- plus showed where the winner of the last challenge was two "things" (as were many others)

Go to a construction site, an open house sale or go for the alternate challenge "Sadness" that unfortunately can be always found at hand.

Yes, I saw at Barnes&Noble empty shelves, waiting probably for the closing of the store or Nooks. Plenty of "Sadness" also.

But anyone who pulls it off will be flushed with pride.

Stan, take a look at the red ribbon winner of the previous challenge, for example. There's a creative solution to the challenge that didn't require emptying an entire room.
