When one makes a comment on one's own photo as part of a sort of conversation thread on the photo, it is not possible to mark it "helpful" (which wouldn't make sense), but it IS added to one's total comments received count. Many use the helpful vs. total count to look for new comments. Please omit one's own comments from the comments received count.

Don't you have this wrong? It's counted as a comment, but you CANT mark it as helpful -- so now you have more comments that you can count helpful.

Either don't count them as a comment, or add the ability to mark them as helpful.

Or add a Reply button to a comment, as that is the original intention is, anyway. You are posting a reply to one's comment, or a reply to another reply, and not necessarily adding a new comment to an image. The replies, in turn form their own mini-thread within the list of comments, with the original comment on top and the replies in an indented drill-down list.

Right, it's NOT marked helpful internally and the count is off. One's own comments should be excluded from the comment count on one's profile. I'll edit my original post.

? Not sure what you mean. I usually reply directly to a comment by quoting it. It works exactly the same way as posting here ie. creates threads. But each entry to a thread counts as comment. Test it out.

Yes, please dump this annoyance of counting one's own comments in the comment count. A reply-to button would be great as well! Thank you for bringing this up, Louis.

It isn't a true thread. It's a contiguous string of posts with a BBCode-style "quote" tag available for use. A truly threaded commenting system would be best, but I doubt it will ever happen.

this sooooo drives me crazy (OCD Personality!!!) my count is always off by one as I realized AFTER I made a comment back to someone under my photo that I CAN'T mark it helpful...NOR can I delete it...soooo therefore my count is OFF...

Some good suggestions here...I would love to comment back on my comments (sometimes) but not during voting to at least say Thank You for taking the time. One other thing that would be helpful...when I receive comments in my e-mail (these are the one's that are not in challenge)...why can't I mark it there as helpful instead of going to my page and getting it caught up (well almost caught up...remember it's off by one...lol)

I definitely agree with the OP

marnet, yes it would count as another post/comment, and not as a reply.

a mini-thread within a thread is what you see in yahoo comments section after an article, imdb forums, and many other forum sites. it works. it's simple. and it makes sense.

When we view our own images it doesn't get tallied into the views, so it should be the same for our comments.

Well that's a whole lot of my time wasted then isn't it. I click on my images all day to get them more views.

Honestly: The proposed makes sense. I especially like Landz's idea about the thread theme. Despite my maturity level, this is 2011, and we have the technology to string threads. And when I reply to comments on my photo, thinking it's a conversation, and it's locked, it's a bad system.
