Hello Everyone,

Do you use single or continuous shots for portraiture photography?

Thank you.

Single. There is no reason for a burst shot. Maybe pets or an active baby/kids, 3-4 bursts, but regular portrait, single only.

Personally, my camera never really leaves continuous. Typically it stays at continuous high (8FPS), or in rare situations, I'll down it to continuous low (3 fps). Instead, I've always just utilized a very soft finger and take single shots while still preserving the ability to take fast whenever I desire.
But really, as Leo said, there isn't a reason for it most of the time. If you're doing lighting, you're also prone to kill batteries a lot faster and mess up your exposure from incomplete fires, as well.

My camera almost never leaves continuous mode. Like spiritualspatula I just control single vs. burst with my finger. I *do* shoot short bursts sometimes when doing candids, but otherwise single shots.

I have a 2 year old. I shoot family photos of her all the time... I use bursts! Many, many bursts. She's on the move and it is almost impossible to get a shot in focus!

Like others my camera is almost always set to continuous mode...just in case. However, with normal portraits where I have the persons attention I only shoot a single frame. Like kirbic, if it's a candid shot and there is a chance of movement I might fire off two or three frames.

Since I rarely use flash, I use continuous. Bursts of 3. And I always count down from 3 so they get ready, and shoot just before they are ready, at the moment they expect, and just after. The number of blinks I get in the middle frame never ceases to amaze me.

Most my portrait shots are in the studio so it is impossible to use continuous mode anyway. And out of the studio I never do either. It just gives me too much work to sort through afterwards :)
