So I'm walking along the trail at one of the bird preserves looking for some flying birds to get a shot for the Birds in flight challenge... I take my eye out of the viewfinder for a moment and see this guy right in front of me...

That shot was not cropped and at 70mm... He was probably 20 feet in front of me, and trust me, it was a little unnerving. I have lived in Florida all my life and encountered gators many times and they are mostly docile, but you never know when one is sitting on a nest or just in a bad mood... I immediately stopped and zoomed in, got a decent cropped shot

I ducked down to get a different perspective and he took a step towards me and opened his mouth... If I had larger cajones I would have kept the camera still and fired the shutter, but it was not to be...LOL... I lowered the camera and backed up slowly... Mr. Gator turned around and dove into the canal leaving me with a near heart attack, a good story, and a few funny photos... and on a side note, where are all the freakin birds in the Florida Everglades this time of year??? Are we in the middle of some migratory pattern where the Floridian birds are gone???

Wendy you have a good point...LOL... I'm going to hit up a different preserve tomorrow. I can assure you that he looks further away in that photograph than he did in real life. If I hadn't lower the camera from my eye and kept walking, I would have practically stepped on him and gotten that shot that Mike wanted to see
