I recently moved from Windows to Mac. I was using old version of photoshop (PS6) on my windows machine which is obviously unusable now. The newer version of PS CS is way too expensive for my non-professional usage. I have never used photoshop elements but would like to buy it if it fits my requirement for following -

1. Local Editing (esp for Dodge and Burn)
2. Layers
3. Use of old photoshop actions (which I bought)

Does Photoshop Elements allow this? Which flavor of photoshop Elements should I buy - Premium etc?

I can spend upto 150 USDs.

Please suggest so that I do not end up buying the wrong software which does not fit my need. Even downloading the wrong PS for trial is not an option because its 3.5 GB for PSE Premium and it would take no less than 2 days with Internet speeds available in my part of the world.

Elements is fine for Dodge and Burn and for layers. Some actions may work, but probably not all of them. What actions are you using?

Thanks, Gina! I bought an action suite from //www.addictedtodesign.com/index.html

It has set of some wonderful actions which I do not want to lose out on. Moreover the website does not talk about compatibility with Elements explicitly.

I don't know those actions, but the site doesn't mention Elements. If there were a free trial I could have checked them out for you, but there doesn't seem to be one. Maybe someone else knows more.

I tried downloading one of their free actions. I can't get it to work, so I imagine you will have the same problem with the ones you bought.

I also tried downloading one of their free actions. It doesn't work because there is no actions command in photoshop elements. But I am using an older version of PSE. maybe newer versions have this command.

actually I dug a little deeper and found a way that you can use actions. The problem is getting them in the right folder I haven't figured out how to do that and not all actions work on PSE. If you google how to use actions in Photo shop elements you should find some tutorials on how to do it.

Thanks Gina and Jennifer! I will surely try out the options and will share the results :)

I actually just outlined how to put actions into PS elements on the Mac in my blog the other day.
