Ok, not me exactly, but I know several members have been. In reading the post DPC helps you get visibility and with my research for my Doctoral program I am wondering. How many people have been 'FOUND' not only on DPC but other websites (deviantART, ect) for commission works, sales of photograph or other. I would love to hear everyone's story.

(-;

Me, I had someone find me through a google search, a theater company in Canada which requested use of one of my images for an upcoming play.

Hasn't happened often but from time to time I've had photos published because the author or publisher saw a DPC photo of mine. And I'v sold some photos for personal use (Christmas cards, etc.)

Still at large and have evaded capture. So far my alias has served me well.

As some may recall, I was found and kidnapped to be used in an ad campaign in Australia. It all worked out in the end... :)

I've been "found" a number of times, mostly at Betterphoto for whatever reason. However, usually, they want free use of my image on their commercial or not-for-profit website.

I was found somewhere (I forget where) and that ended me up in the book Winning Photo Contests.

I was found on DailyAwards by someone who wanted to put my image "Water colors" on the cover of a phone book; It was on the up-and-up, but it turns the phone book was for Canada, and he thought the image was shot in Canada.

Although DPC is my "home", I don't think it's that easy for casual onloookers to find people here, unless you get a lot of front page exposure like Shannon, Irene, Jason... The other sites home pages all are photo oriented; DPC is forum oriented (other than the weekly winners).

Some silly calendar company tossed 200 Euros into my PayPal account for permission to use this photo. That was a nice gift out of the blue.

I was found through a google search. A mortgage company paid me $600 to use this image in an advertisement. Go figure.

LOL! Do you know what their ad campaign was? Like, "Other companies may tell you a Fairy Tale..." ??

I was found by a company in the UK searching for a Lipizzan Stallion image which showed them this one on DPC so they found my profile and found my website addy and got my email off that which ultimately resulted in an expansion of my paypal account by a thousand US dollars.

They must have wanted it pretty badly to go through all that.

A representative of Hogentogler & Co found some photos of their test sieves on my SmugMug site and bought the rights to use them on their web site.

Virginia Postrel (writer/editor/columnist) found this photo on my SmugMug site and purchased usage rights.

They both made me a lot of money, especially for photos that I never expected to sell.

I use StatCounter on my site to track visitors, page loads, etc., and it's amazing how many people visit my site, from all over the world. And I don't advertise the site at all.

I was found by Avanti Press. They said they found my image on DPC, and sent me a check for $2500 to have exclusive use of the image for 5 years. You can find it on greeting cards, Avanti Stationary, etc. Come April, if they decide they want to renew the contract I'll get another $2500.

This is one of the cool DPC stories. Many of us have seen the card in stores. My son was duly impressed when I winked at him and said I knew who took that picture.

My mom was impressed as well - I bought the card, too!

The editor of a quarterly fireworks magazine, called '76 Pyro, wanted one of my fireworks photos for his magazine, so I sent him a couple and a little article. All I got in return was a T-shirt and three different issues of the magazine.
