Hi everybody,
I'm looking for a little help.
I just got the Canon 7D and it is behaving strangely.
(1) When I switch the power to ON it takes a picture automatically, with or without a lens attached!
(2) But then if I press the shutter release fully it does NOT take a picture. BUT, if I pull up the quick menu or regular menu and immediately press the shutter release fully, it does take a picture.
(3) The buttons on the back of the camera work only if I first press the shutter release button half way.
Huh?
I've upgrade the firmware. No change. I cleared all camera settings. No change.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Do I just need to return it?
Thanks, Miller

I'd say so, yes; return it. Something's very wonky there.

I'd definitely return it. Even if you manage to fix it, you won't know if it will start happening again down the road. Don't take chances.

After watching your video I'd say you have a main board failure. I had one on my 7D and know of a few other people who have as well. All with odd things happening. If you can return it do that, if not send it to Canon and let them fix it. It will come back like new. |

Well at least Canon can't say they've never seen that before since the YouTube video in the earlier link I posted showed the same behavior. |

Just to update: I have returned the defective 7D to the seller for a replacement. |
