I don't think I like this side challenge... All my regular photos are looking really, really dull in comparison to ones with textures. It's ruining me for straight forward photography.

LOL! Maybe it doesn't make them "better" but they sure are fun to do.
It occurred to me that an image presents us mostly with a place, and the overlays seem to add a sense of time. |

I think I'm enjoying it, because I feel like I'm finally creating something artistic. I wish I could do things like Nixter and Ursula, create a piece of art, but I just capture what's there. I'm not saying it well, because I don't know how to put it into words. The best way to describe it is: I'm not a 1x.com person. I love the photos there -- I think they're truly, incredibly artistic. I would love to be able to do things like that. But I can't. I doubt that there's anything in my portfolio that would interest them. But somehow the overlays seem to take the photos into a more artistic realm. I still haven't figured out what works, and what I like, but it's fun feeling that I can do something artistic.

One thing is for certain I find that there is more artistic freedom to breathe new life into older images or 'revisit' them. I love seeing what others have come up with too - some really beautiful works.
An old one of my youngest taken a wee bit over 3 years ago. Will post more in notes section when time permits...

Art is not a product, it's a process. It's in the doing of it that Art happens. When I was a little kid, just beginning to draw, I could trance out & disappear into what I was drawing, becoming fully absorbed in & by the process. The product/result was only a child's drawing, one of millions. But I poured my heart & soul out in the making of it. Finding something that would accept my heart & soul, play with it, make discoveries with it, was Fun. Now the same little kid is with me & in me as I lean back in the lazyboy, one hand on the mouse, gazing into the computer screen, lost in a world of my own creation. I still trance out, disappear into my work, free-associating photoshop tools, photos, overlays. Freed of all rules, all preconceived ideas, I goof around to see what will happen next. And it's still Fun. Just sayin'. "D

The stuff I'm seeing in this SC is *A*W*E*S*O*M*E! You guys ROCK!

I totally relate to what you're saying. I am quite happy with the images I'm getting in this SC but they still lack that "omph" quality. On the other hand, I think I could get there if I continue to let my creativity flow freely. This side challenge is just what my artistic muscles needed :D |
