Enjoy:
Chimping Photographers, Toronto Air Show 2009

It's about time for the 2010 Toronto Air Show, which got me thinking of some video from the 2009 air show which I never did anything with. So I powered up the storage drive and looked back one year in the time machine to the 2009 air show.

Featured in the video: jeger, VitaminB, pwarmuz, Shutter-For-Hire, and yours truly.

What the heck "Chimping" means and why is it something funny? I never understood the "funny" part of looking at your work to make sure you captured everything you want or not, if retake needed or not? i thought they put the dang LCD there for you to look at it, not just keep it clean!

Just asking, that's all.

I am a supporter of chimping, and also member. I like that it has a nick-name. That's all. :-)

From good ole Wikipedia...

"Chimping is a colloquial term used in digital photography (especially when using a digital single-lens reflex camera) to describe the habit of checking every photo on the camera display (LCD) immediately after capture. Chimp is an acronym for CHeck IMage Preview."

Short but funny video Slippy!

I usually shoot with manual lenses from the 70's and 80'. Because my S3 Fuji does not meter with them, it's a lot better and easier to look at the LCD after each few shots to gauge exposure than it would be to break out the old Luna Pro light meter.
Fortunately for me,the S3 has a preview setting, so that it puts the last shot right on the screen after exposure.

I chimp and I'm proud.

So what was the deal with the towel over the lens? Did he pull that over his head to see the screen better?

VitaminB uses top secret lenses, not yet released to the general public.

So, he is the "Tester" not "Chimper"... or, "Tester Chimp" or "Chimping Tester"...

VitaminB probably the level second tester. After the "real chimps" done with the level one tests, they let him "chimp" with it more.

At least he doesn't throw his feces. Well, not on the day of this video, anyway.

It comes from when people look at the rear screen and say "Ooh" and "Ahh".

Ooh ooh ohh. Like a chimp.

That was great! I may have to bring something that does video and do a similar one of all the Texas DPC'ers this coming weekend. Slippy, you are a bottomless well of ideas.

Actually, these guys are all ribbon power-houses, which shows how important chimping is.

Oh snykies, I wasn't aware of that! Did all of the Icelanders have to sell their gear after the economic meltdown?

Nikon hooked me up with the top secret (Nikon AF Zoom-Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 VR DG IF-ED) a few year before after it was released the the public.

But really, the lens was getting very hot, as we were sitting under the sun for hours. I was using the towel to keep it cool.

It might help if you actually read the entry before disputing it. CH IM P is simply a backronym that someone came up with after it was already called chimping.

The phrase is most likely derived from comparison between the sounds and actions some make while reviewing images and those of an excited primate (Oooh! Oooh! Aaah!), or when a photographer is completely absorbed in the act of analyzing, admiring or proudly displaying a shot to others.
