who is on FB?
I'm on FB beginning only from yesterday, now i'm going to understand how work...

I was on facebook, but I deleted my account. I found myself spending bizarrely large amounts of time just reading inane updates about how people's Farmville was doing or their latest Mafia Wars conquest.
Strange thing was that I kept going back over and over again so I decided it was best if I just got rid of it altogether!
But don't let that put you off :)

Thankfully they have blocks for all that Farmville (etc) stuff. I have been blocking all that nonsense, and now I'm down to mostly updates that I might actually WANT to see........ except  art roflmao's stuff, of course ;-) |

| One thing you should know - don't put pictures on facebook. When you do anyone that can see them is allowed to use them. |

There are some caveats to this. Depending on your privacy settings, more or less people can see your images. Only friends can see mine, personally. Also keep in mind that they are now allowing direct printing through several services, and these must be opted out of individually. Very anti-photographer. Snapfish, Target, Wal-Mart, and another I do believe are the ones who can print photos direct.
The watermark, of course, solves the problem. As does knowing who your friends are. I guess it gets down to what you're using facebook for... personal or business reasons. |

I wouldn't worry about the photo thing too much. facebook does a wonderful job of compressing your photos into garbage when you upload them, The res is so low that getting a decent print out of a 720 pix photo would be a miricle.

Hmmm. I wonder how that affects the 1x.com photos since it's now integrated with facebook. I could be wrong but my impression is the photos can get published at facebook without the photographer even knowing about it.

I just signed up the other day. I was holding out because the thought of it just made me laugh!! I dont really care what everyone is doing at every second of the day nor do I want anyone to know every tidbit of my life.
I finally caved. The only reason I signed on is so that I can get more exposure for my photography and make it easier for people to contact me. As for the pics what  Bugzeye said.
I was getting left behind in the technology race. It was time I caught up!!

this is the main reason for me too... i'd like to expand my photographic business and today, if you do not have an FB account, seems that you are too old and out...
for the rest i do not like it, much better DPC!!! ;-) |

That reminds me of a girl who took my websize images off my site and then signed a copyright form at the local printers to say they were hers (yeah right) and then tried printing them at 8"x12"and then range me up and abused me because the big-ass watermark didn't fall off in the printing...LMAO!!!!

I don't have a "big-ass" water mark but do agree that a watermark is good. Even if someone steals it at least they are still be advertising for you. I always put ©my name and website on all my facebook images.

Both of these quotes are 100% true. I resize mine to 600px, watermark it, and save to web at about 200kb. This way if someone steals it the most they can get out of it is posting it on their facebook, myspace, or website which equals advertisement for me at the most. I've had a friend try to copy an image from facebook and use it as her screensaver and was wondering why it kept stretching it out. I told her it's because I want it to do that. I sized her one out that was right for her desktop and gave it to her afterwords and joked about how no one thinks that copy/paste is stealing.
