PennyClick, Bear_Music, Yakatme, and Shortstuff are hitting the high seas for adventure, relaxation, and photo ops. If anyone's in the British Virgin Islands in the next couple weeks, keep an eye peeled out for us as we do the grand tour on a 45-foot yacht we've chartered for 10 days.

There's the off-chance we can get some internet connectivity during our sojourn, especially Penny and I, since we'll be staying with my brother for a few days before and after on St. John, USVI, so with a little luck we can tease y'all with some wildly tropical images. It'll be a far cry from the Northeast, that's for sure :-)

Wish us fair winds and a following sea; we're off to Boston to catch a plane in 5 hours...

Wow. That sounds freaking awesome. I was just thinking the other day, I never see sailing shots here on DPC. Saiboats from the shore, sure, but actual on-board sailing shots, no. Gimme!

Not only do we have the chargers, the boat actually has a 110v system and air conditioning. I'm typing this from Logan Airport as we wait for our flight.

David_C: will do! Sailing shots coming up!

General observation:

Gawd I hate dealing with airports :-(

Well, we're now on St. John with my brother. Penny and I are, anyway. Been a tortuous path. Bucketing rain in Puerto Rico, storms in the Virgins, 45 min delay leaving PR for St. Thomas, and some doubt they'd fly at all.

Then when we got to St. Thomas and got organized in the van with other passengers to cross the spine of the island and go to Red Hook to catch the 7PM ferry for St. John, well streets were flooding, detours required, then the flipping van BLEW A TIRE so we missed that ferry. They sent a replacement van, we made the 8PM ferry, and here we are in a nice old-school tropical villa with an outdoors freat room.

Photos tomorrow, I hope :-)

It was advertised here and you all had your chance ;)

Actually, there were several people interested and we could have gone with a four cabin catamaran, but Bear and Penny came through and we are very happy with the monohull that we be sailing away on this Saturday.

If this goes as well as I expect it to then we may be doing this again sometime soon. Bear is interested in the Greek Isles and while that sounds good to me I also want to cruise the South Pacific, New Zealand, and many more places too.

Oops! I didn't mean to post just below yours. We must have been typing at the same time and you are a little quicker than I am.

Yeah, that weather could turn into a Tropical Storm and hit South Florida 16 hours after we leave to meet up with you guys. I don't like the idea of leaving Chris here to deal with anything stronger than a tropical wave by himself. I'll be keeping an eye on it but I don't think that it will develop into a problem.

Well, I can feel that tropical storm trying to sort of scrape around the edges here. But we're safe and secure in a villa named "Haiku" on a hill over Cruz Bay, very nice. I'm trying to upload some "vacation fun with topaz" shots I snapped a little while ago when sun was out briefly.

Well I got two up anyway, both involving the "great room" of Haiku. A great room is an outdoor, roofed-over living space. The villa consists ONLY of bedrooms, a semi-enclosed kitchen, and the great room; it's the only living space where people can gather. Plus bathrooms of course. This whole place is real old-school, circa late 60's or early 70's.
