There are some fair voters out there today. I've gotten a few 6's and an occasional 7 or 8, but not enough to balance out the lowball votes. They will finish their fun shortly. Best way to counter the tactical voters is to get in there and cast your own fair votes.

Same here. What the yahoo's don't realize is that by the time voting is done the number of serious votes cast will diminish the return on their "fun".

Averages will stabilize when
1) There are a high number of votes
2) The votes cast resemble the honest nature and feel of the voters

Therefore, targeted or random low values are outside of the normal distribution and therefore will not affect everything in the long run.

Once again, I'm below my average and the opinion of a recent ribbon winner (that is NOT voting on my shot)thought it would finish 6+.

There is no rhyme or reason to how the voters are voting of late, but it almost seems like 4 is the new five and the number of photos scoring below 5.0 scores has increased greately of late.

Turning scores off. (Where are the Cheetos...)

Knew that 5.88 I saw this morning was too good to last..*sigh*...RANT warning...

TROLLS! Pack it in! Your scores are going down with everyone else's, not up! Have you not figured that out yet! And if you're getting crap scores because you entered a crap photo, then learn from it, take better photos, earn better scores, and grow up!!!!

*rant over*

I'm not complaining about trolls. I seriously cannot see what flaw is in my photo to have it score with so many mutual 5 and sub 5 votes.

I can see all the flaws in mine, it is inept and deserves all the low votes, as has been witnessed by everything I have entered since joining this site. At 5.2 it sits where it belongs and I accept that my limited talents match my limited imagination!

So, I guess it is back under my stone for awhile, until this one is forgotten, then I'll re-emerge.

Other than watching the scores on a regular basis and doing the math, is there a way to see how the votes are playing out prior to the end? I keep seeing people say they are getting 1s and 2s which I can understand will have a pretty big impact depending on the number of votes cast. But how do you know when you get a 6 or 7 other than a smaller tick up? Am I missing something that shows me my votes so far?

OUCH!!! I was at a 4.7 this morning and got home to see this score! Wow...makes me wonder why I bother to enter anything at all now. This is really discouraging. :(

I had an entry for tonight's Self-Portrait challenge which was hard enough for me to do since I hate photographs of myself. Now that I see this....I'm not sure that I can take the low scores. :( Ego can't take it as a photographer or a person. LOL

I was at a 5.4 when I first got up. Now at a 4.75. I was expecting it to go up, not down. :(

FYI... you can take a photo of ANYONE... DNMC is not grounds for DQ and no one will know until the comp is over :)

Wow...I love this spreadsheet. It would be cool if there was some live RSS feed we could use for our username that would output a score or something and we could feed it back in.

I was at 40 votes with a 5.8 and got another vote and went to 5.7073. That shows a vote of 2. WTF is wrong with some of these people?

Just wondering...

We can't strictly say that it is all trolls that are bringing our scores down. For my shot to go from a 6.8 with 20 votes to a 5.21 with 40 votes...it must be a 5.21 shot in the voters eye.

I wonder how many voters have their monitors calibrated...by HARDWARE. I personally use the Spyder and calibrate each month. I checked my entry on a friends computer and it was horrid. All bright and washed out. I checked it on my work computer and it was better but not as good as it looked on my home computer. I viewed the current front page shots on the same two computers and each looked different. On my home computer, the current front page shots look great...as they should...but on the other computers they looked on the dull side...except for composition of course.

Do you think scores would hold better if every voter had a calibrated monitor? (I know this is not possible !).
I just can't seem to shake feeling that someone looks at my shot on their monitor and says...oooo that's a 4...and on their monitor IT REALLY IS A 4.

This also holds true for someone editing their photo on an uncalibrated monitor....If you edit it on an out of whack computer, then I will see it as a mess on my calibrated monitor....and.....ooooo "that's a 4 !

What do you think?

Well, I think that is a question that all of us have asked ourselves if we've checked out our entries on different monitors. Unfortunately, we'd all drive ourselves INSANE if we kept trying to check out different monitors.

The way that I look at things is that whatever monitor someone is using to view all of the photos and vote, they are more often than not, voting on all of the photos from the same monitor. In that case, your photo is going to be judged by the same monitor as everyone else's.

I've seen some brilliantly photographed and edited pieces lag behind some less well done shots in a lot of challenges so, that is saying that it's also a matter of tastes, not just technicals and in that case, monitors really aren't going to make that much of a difference.

I'm sure that some photos *can* be pretty horrendous looking on monitors other than the editing monitor but, again, that's something that we all struggle with. It's just part of the nature of the beast in entering photos in these challenges. :)

True...I could enter a DNMC shot and you're right. It wouldn't be a DQ. I guess my dog and cat are out as models then, huh? LOL ;)

Simple. They are so frickin STUPID that they think that by voting everyone else down, their own score will *magically* rise. Uhh...no. If they vote others down and piss people off, they in turn get voted down too, cause people are now in a pissy mood! So they end up where they belong.

But try telling the trolls that...doesn't work...*sigh*
