It is so hard to pick five, and there are some that I really love but didn't include because they are more into the realms of manipulation, whereas these are all brilliant photos straight up.
by bobonacus The first shot I added to my favourites, and still the first to come to mind when I think of favourites.
by JimiRose Beautifully atmospheric.
by kiwiness A gorgeous shot.
by Byshen A beautiful portrayal of the carefree joy of children.
by De Sousa Exceptional in every way.

Hey, I can play this game.
because e301 has magnificent landscapes.
because it's so human and ursula is a genius.
because yanko set a new standard in abstractions of the ordinary.
because it's brilliant and simple and bucket was sharp enough to notice.
because charliebaker reminds us not to take things too seriously.

by artvet. My first favourite, and in some ways the reason i joined the site. I still hear strange, weird music and creaking wood when i look at it.
by iamwoman. More beautiful silent music and emotion from empty architecture. Hugely inspiring.
by zeuszen. Zeuszens images are a huge influence on me. Wonderful translations of meaning and significance.
by cutout. I love cutouts stuff. Inspires me to stretch the limits of my eye, the camera and the surroundings to make an image.
by gsal. Fantastic storytelling. Fantastic black and white. Just plain fantastic.
I could go on but 5 is the limit it seems.

It's so difficult to narrow it down to just five images... DPC has, and continues to inpire me in all my photographic work. Just have a look through my 'favourites' on my profile to find out which other images I've been amazed by on this site.
But the five I chose for this thread are:
nshapiro
This was one of the first images that really moved me on DPC. I've always wanted to shoot something like this...
John White
Just an awesome scene.
annah
I've always liked black and white portraits, but Annah's work inspired me. For someone so young, she has an amazing knack of filling a shot with emotional content.
Nobody
This is from one of the first few challenges I voted on, and it's stuck in my mind ever since. What timing.
steinar
This shot is what got me interested in photographing fashion/models and got me interested in strobist lighting - the things I seem to be doing mostly these days. This shot continues to inspire me - a standard I aspire to. |

Good question … I could probably post 8000 or so inspiring DPC photos but my brain chose these today:
lovethelight
De Sousa
Scalvert
Bassie
kiwiness
edit to add names

Put two things together, children & strong emotion, and I'm hooked!
Melethia This evokes such raw emotion in me! Loved it from the moment I saw it (and I also have a beautiful card made from it direct from the artist!).
Hipychik So much personality & love shine through in this!
Jutilda Such despair!
skewsme Such joy!
xianart Pow! Pure nostalgia! If this doesn't pull your heartstrings, I don't know what will. |
