Yes, the SB-600 cannot send the wireless signal, only receive it.
You have to use either a SB-800 or the built-in flash to send the signal (menu option 19) to the SB-600. |

If you have a cpu macro lens you should be able to get the proper exposure with the sb600.. But all in all, I've never seen a 'commander mode' option in my D70 maybe I'm just an idiot but hey.

The option is called 'Flash mode' on the custom settings menu. There are 3 choices: TTL, Auto, Commander mode, I think. TTL is the normal mode. |

Actually, I just had the most successful macro photo shoot ever! I simply made a dome from a regular white poster paper (1m x 0.5m or something) and point the flash up. It gives really nice results. However, I had to set the flash intensity manually (on the camera).
Also, I made sure to put on the hood for my sigma 105mm/2.8.
Would i-TTL work for such a setup? I couldn't get it to work, but it might be missing something. |

the D70 has ttl metering and should run the sb600 accordingly (assuming you have a cpu lens) On this note, I've had trouble with the hot shoe on my D70. You really have to make sure the flash is on there very exactly or it won't adjust with the zoom.

In combination with the F717 ? Don't know.
In combination with the D70 : set your camera flash to commander mode and set remote "on" on the flash unit (press the zoom and minus button for a few seconds, and then press the mode button so "on" is displayed on the lcd). That's all. |

Just got my SB-600 yesterday. I'm looking to take some macro shots but would need the wireless flash feature...
How do I make my SB-600 wireless? It is written in the manual that it could only be used as a remote flash unit. What exactly does this imply?
