I like the original idea, not the suggested modifications/limitations.

That criterion eliminates 99.9% (almost literally) of my source material ... ;-)

Thought about this all day after reading it. I understand the whole thing about once again going back into 2014, but what about taking this idea and instead of making it another challenge that dips into the archives, it instead requires that you use 2 (or more) images submitted in previous challenges. In other words, take 2 great shots that you've already shown us and make them work together.

Or maybe en lieu of the "Art of 2015" ...?

What an interesting idea. And what surprising results I think we would see. I like it!

... and you failed to notice I've stayed quiet on this one. There's a reason. Umm ... {end rant}? :-)

nice to see an "out of the box" think here. count me in! that said, it may offend the commercial/stock folks as it could lead to ... ... ABSTRACTS!! oh the horror! */*

I would love to see what the likes of Christoph would come up with only using photos they took in 2014 and without being able to use any new ones. I think it would be fun challenge to go through my own photos and see what I could combine and make into a whole new photo. Personally it would be a pretty big challenge as I haven't taken as many photos this year as I usually do. But I am still up for it. I know this has been suggested before but thought I would give it one more try...so please....
