I'm bored enough to explore this a bit further with you Robt.

The issue is that I shoot macro with flash, and set manual focus for magnification, then just move myself to get the image in focus. Not sure if there's much that the IS would help with there... I could possibly see it stabilizing the viewfinder a bit, and that wouldn't be bad I guess, but I don't know that I'd find it terribly helpful..

I can absolutely see it being massively useful for normal shooting, especially in low light for portraits and such, but as a macro lens, I'm not sure if I really can see why it would help much for macro work (and since I own the 85 f/1.8, I really don't do portraits with the 100 ever...)

Dunno, just curious if you really find that the hybrid IS really helps much when doing macro work with flashes.. Maybe I've missed something.. :)

And here I am contemplating building and attaching a 25lb lens to my camera.... Naturally, like yourself, I too am operating under the assumption good equipment = automatic ribbons. I feel I simply haven't achieved a sufficient level of good equipment yet. :D

I wanted to adopt both lenses, Robt. The L would've excluded the other. Was playing with it yesterday, GOOD GRACIOUS ... that minimal focusing distance and DOF is unreal! Took me a while to find the focus point on manual at 1:1...I kept thinking I was going to bump the glass into my subject! Huge difference from the 50!

Great choices Garry - I love the 10-22 and have won 2 ribbons with it since purchasing it less than 2 months ago. The other lens is on my wish list.

Thanks Cory. Im operating under the assumption good equipment = automatic ribbons. You may as well start handing them over ;)

Thank you all. I am not sure how happy the elder sibling (my 50mm 1.8) is. He has become so used to being the only child for so long now. I worry that he may feel replaced and get jealous.
