I have tried unsucessfully to photograph a yellow flower. I have an example of one of my better shots here.

But, I don't think it is all it could be. Is there something special that I could do to make the flower come out better. It seems that the yellow either is overexposed or just blah. One or the other, never just right. Am I the only one that has difficulty in photographing yellow?
I have tried using diffused sunlight coming in through the window. I have tried direct sunlight. I have tried lighting with 500 watt halogen bounced off of different surfaces and colors. I don't seem to have problems with any other colored flowers. Must be something with the color yellow?

What are the secrets? Professionals, Please help.

to be honest
I see nothing wrong with it.Sure all the color is the same..and yellow is hard to photograph. But the whole flower is yellow. This is a great photo.

Looks good to me, great contrast with the backround too!

I copied it into PS and peeked at the histogram. The red channel is approachins saturation, and is saturated (clipped) over a fairly large area. That makes the yellow look even more uniform.
The lighting looks a little hard, which gives the blown highlights on most of the petals.
Try a little more diffuse lighting and a slightly different white balance to avoid the oversaturated red channel, and bracket your exposure.
Yellows and bright reds can be darn difficult to photograph, expecially since the 300D (and 10D) don't give you histograms for each color, just the composite. Still, you can usually tell, with practice, when you've blown a channel.

Thanks Matrix and Kyebosh!

Kirbic, I purposefully ran up the red and some of the blue in this image. It was my attempt to fix what I felt was wrong. I also did some levels adjustment and some contrast.
I will try some different lighting, but it is VERY difficult to capture the proper yellows of this flower. The lighing I used for this image was just the light coming in through a single window. It wasn't even direct light as I had the blinds turned up to get the light to shine off the ceiling. The ceiling is a cathedral type ceiling with white paint. I used my 18-55mm set at Manual mode. Shutter speed was 2 secs. Aperture was set at 22. Center-weighted averaging. ISO - 100. Focal length of 55mm.

I have included the original, resized, USM with a setting of 1-radius, amount-95%. Thats it. Any other suggestions from anyone would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks....Martin

LOL! Gladly, just let me know where I sign up for your photography grant money and I'm there. $$$$$$$$$$$$$
Actually, I like it. It rates a little higher than a lot of other lenses. I suppose I could use my 70-200mm L.
