If you will be in or near a city this week, creatively capture some urban decay!

I live near a ghetto, this should be good.

current temperature: -21 degrees Celsius. Plus wind chill.

The decay might be out in this urban environment but I sure as hell won't be. Then again, the last time I went out shooting film was in weather just like this...

Urban decay is when parts of the city become run down and undesirable to live in. It causes economic (money), social (people) and environmental (our surroundings) problems. Examples of urban decay are -
Slum housing - with outside toilets, overcrowding, no hot water or central heating
Many buildings have been poorly built and now have leaking roofs, draughty windows and crumbling stonework
Empty buildings are vandalised; gap sites where buildings have been knocked down turn into derelict land
As the factories and housing have been in the same areas air, noise and water pollution have been common

I'll be highly disappointed if Detroit doesn't make it into the top 3. If ever there was a poster child for urban decay, Detroit would be king.

Any of the Rust Belt cities: Detroit, Gary, Cleveland, Youngstown, Pittsburgh...

Ooooh, you have some good ones.

Oh I HOPE I have time this week to play with this one. I LOVE this type of photography. And it will be so fun voting on this one. We have so many people here who are excellent in this genre.

Yayyy!

Detroit's bad, but Gary, IN is the worst.

I hear Venice is decaying, too. I am keen to go there myself. Detroit too. Detroit looks fascinating. There is a website: The Fabulous Ruins of Detroit dedicated to it.

Nice! That's my kind of challenge! :).
East Germany holds some great treasures for urban Explorers!

And if I don't get time to shoot something serious I can just take a photo out my window...

I am so utterly jealous of where you live!

E.T.A : Actually, i spent a bit of time in East Berlin about 10 years ago and one of my fondest memories was going to see Samuel Becketts play, 'Krapps Last Tape' performed in an abandoned/squatted street. Anyone who knows that play would see what an amazing apt setting it was.

Gee.....one was straight from the camera, one was done before Topaz was in existence, the third one I may have used the adaptive exposure on, and yes......that last image had some Topaz on it, but nowhere near what it did when it was in the challenge.

Yeah, Joe, you sure pegged these right.
