Actually none - I usually assume I understand them.

This was the most misunderstood challenge entry, I think, though not the lowest scoring....

And this is more generally a polarizing image: people either "get it" or they don't have a clue why I wasted time taking an image like this:

This got a 4.9 in the black and white color. A few thought it wasn't a blue jay. Probably didn't affect my score, but I felt a tad misunderstood... not much.

Everyone commented on the noise in this photo but I thought that it added to the atmosphere of the 4th of July, it is noisy, duh.

I took the box, tore it to shreds, threw the shreds in the fire, and buried the ashes.....8>)

The title of the challenge said Black & White Portrait II

The challenge description said N/A

Black guy, white beard, portrait.

27-1s, 25-2s, & 31-3s on a pretty clean portrait.

Got DNMCs, and some commentary on how I didn't "get" the idea of the challenge since I didn't, or forgot to, convert it to B&W.

I guess there was a certain amount of misunderstanding, but it really was completely intentional to show that some people don't really care what the actual description says if they think you haven't done what you're supposed to, you WILL get slapped for it.

I got quite a few of this kind of thing:

"A black man with a white beard is NOT a B&W picture! Idea is creative but does not meet challenge criteria."

I just *LOVED* this!!!

WHAT criteria??????

Funny thing is, there were also a group of viewers/voters that were outspoken in favor of what was considered to be a gutsy, irreverent, tongue-in-cheek entry that was a whole lot of fun.

And that was a big plus!

I got the most terrific comment from timfythetoo

"Well this image was quite the shock opening up. Having just voted on almost 100 black and white images to see this image full of color come up was a stunner. Had I not spent the extra second I did compared to many of the other entries my finger probably would have hit the 3 button quick. I expect that you are recieving many DNMC votes and comments on this one. But not here. No where in the challenge description does ot say that your entry must be a black and white converted image. While a bit out of the box (just a bit) I think that you met the challenge well and in a gutsy way. The image is strong and pleasing, the red background really makes this stand out even more than in comparison to the images around it. My only real complaint is the border. I am not too keen on the design and the orange strip just doesnt really go well with any of the colors that are in your image. I hope you arent getting hit too hard here. You get an 8 from me counting the extra point awarded for sheer balls. Good luck and I look forward to seeing where this image falls."

It was a fun experiment, and it definitely got the DNMC Nazis' knickers in a twist!

ROFL!!!

This is one that was for the Color in B&W challenge, I loved the shapes made by the shade but have to admit it looked better in color...

I'd say most of what I've entered has not been fully understood. Oh well. What is irritating is the people who spend the time commenting that they don't understand. If they had spent the time contemplating the image instead, they may have had an "ah ha moment." I was going to say "epiphany", but....

eta: What I mean to say is that my entries do not require any deep thought to comprehend. Hell, my current entry in Transparency is pretty much spelled out, but 2/3rds of the commenters don't get it.

Just not enough golfing photographers.

This was from a member challenge : Earliest Memory
I went for sentiment and what was heart felt, I should have known better but at the time I was so excited to portray the scene and remember again what that morning was like. Not many comments during voting, but the nicest people came back to offer encouragement. I am still proud of the photo and Mom thought it was wonderful that I remembered that morning back in 1962.

My personal worst as far as score.

your commentary includes this gem: "and voila, there you have it - penii on a stick"

That line is worth a 10! too bad it didn't show during voting--coulda been a good title, though :-)

This one for the Darkness challenge. Ironically I scored more 1's,2's,3's & 10's on one single photograph than any of my other entries.

Oh, that's easy.

Sometimes a single comment from someone it connects with is worth more than winning the challenge.

I prefer that my photographs are misunderstood. No, that's not quite right ... I like them to be difficult to understand, and the consequence of that is that they are either not understood, or misunderstood, by many people. To me, that's a good thing. The best place for photographs that cannot be misunderstood is on the lids of cake tins.

I did enter 27 challenges here in 2005 & 2006, and looking back at my entries I'd say that they certainly baffle me now. Alas, they can't be deleted, so I'm afraid that we are all stuck with them.

Got disqualified for this. The curtain in the background couldn't be touched.

I think I misunderstood this one more than others did. I took street photography to be a candid shot. Apparently not. :-)

Pick one.

I suppose it was this one. Apparently I missed the memo describing how old something needed to be in order to qualify for the challenge.

Absolutely!

I have a couple comments on challenge entries that are so amazing that sometimes I just go back and make sure they're real.

That feeling you get when you connect is tremendous.

There is nothing I hate more than some interpretation Nazi who states "This isn't within the spirit of the challenge".

What makes anyone think for one second that they have any clue where you were mentally when you shot for a challenge?

I personally feel that anyone who actually puts that in their comment should be publicly horse-whipped.

Not that it bugs me or anything........8>)

IMO there's no such thing. Maybe one or a few voters can misunderstand but if the masses misunderstand then the photographer has failed. I.e. Who do you fire? The team or the coach? :)

So in short: The more an entry is misunderstood, the more the photographer has failed in conveying the message.

IMO :)
