This morning when I went to my profile to check out new comments, I discovered that I am 44 comments short of this same time yesterday. Anyone have a clue how that might happen?

I'm only missing one. I would hazard a guess that someone closed their account. I believe they take their comments with them when they go.

Bummer; I lost 20. I was 1 away from 5,000 and now I'm 21 away. Guess I better go make some comments, huh? Moving milestones are *so* much more challenging than static ones ;-)

nope didnt have any comments from him and it happened last night as I always had 10 more than helpful (I screwed up and was writing my own comments back lol)

So someone last night escaped, with a whoooooooooole bunch of comments, time to track them down!!! lol

Nope, I still have comments from a number of former members who cancelled their accounts. Comments can be removed if they violate the ToS, but that doesn't happen very often. Maybe you deleted some portfolio images with comments?

I'm not entirely certain, but I think there's a database cleanup that's done periodically. So it may not be one user, but perhaps a few that have left since the last cleanup, and the comments all go away at one time. But I could be wrong. (I don't know if I lost any or not - I don't keep track of the number, just the differential between received and helpful so I can tell when I get new ones.)

Oh, and Scalvert has an excellent point - when you delete stuff, all the comments go bye-bye.

I am missing comments as well. I didn't delete any photos overnight, so I am also not sure where they went.

This pertains to Comments Made
I believe if a user deletes a photograph that you commented on, your comment will be deleted as well.
Maybe someone deleted a photograph, not the users that are missing comments.

I'm not sure but I believe I had 1495 comments made as of last night and only have 1491 today. Maybe someone deleted four pictures that I had commented on.

You may not have but the person whose image you commented on may have.

I think there's something else (ie, some kind of server maintenance) going on. Last night, all of my stats were at ZERO for the better part of 30 minutes. Obviously that has been fixed, but immediately following the rollover on Sunday night, I lost ~1000 'Total Image Views'... not sure if I ever got those back (?).

Every once in a while I'll have comments missing - this morning, too. It's usually a chunk of them. I just figured that something was being reset - or whatever.

I am missing received comments....This is why I was confused about not deleting any photos. Sorry, I should have been more clear about what I was missing.

Yup, here too. Had 502 comments received as of this past weekend, now 498.
I'll have to "uncongratulate" the person who left me that 500th comment a few days ago!

ALRIGHT! I admit it! I took back everything I ever said about all your images.

Nah, no need to uncongratulate - just congratulate the next 500th comment as well. :-)

Better yet, send the person $500 to show your appreciation.

Alright, the congrats to the 500th comment on my profile go to Art Roflmao!
Thank you, sir!

Ralf

PS - and in hindsight as to the cause for lost comments, I'll bet I purged some older images some weeks ago that had comments, but the comment counter didn't recalculate until recently during some routine database maintenance for DPC or something similar. Cheers all!

Yesterday, I deleted a bunch of photos from 2006 and sent them over to here, just to free up some space in my dpc portfolio. They were from a 30 day macro challenge, and perhaps had an average of 6 comments each.
