Anyone use this for printing?

//www.mpix.com/

how is it? Quality? B&W? Prices seem not too bad.

I have had a good experience with Mpix.

As a matter of fact, I had them print a book where there was a slight issue. Within one day of me contacting customer support, I had resubmitted the job at no cost.

They will also send you a Sample Kit of their papers :)

Great thanks!

I'll get the sample kit and see what I think. I'm real picky, so we will see. heh.

I've had great experiences as well. One minor thing which has happened a few times to me... on large mounted prints there's sometimes a tiny bit of white at one of the edges on the paper, as if the print was trimmed but not quite enough before mounting it. No big deal when you put it in a frame though. Their shipping is real cheap as well, the only catch is different papers ship separately, so try not to mix up lustre, metallic, or "Digital B/W" together.

I've used them a few time and would certainly recommend them.

I have been using them for a few years..the only ones that do NOT Mess with your contrast/brightness. Their prints are high quality and they send them out quick. Something else I really like about the is the fact that they do NOT use tubes to send them in..they send them in flat boxes with the larger prints on its own board. I love that so the clients don't have to flatten them later

THey offer a metallic paper that man make images super-cool when printed. They include that if you have them send a sample.

However I use Photoworks.com because the upload for MAc is the best I've used.

I love the metallic paper. I had my Xmas card photos printed on it, and I got so many comments from family and friends -- it was probably the best family photo I've taken, but the comments everyone had were how cool the photos looked with that paper.

Plus their ROES program makes for easy ordering, then walk away while it loads to the site. I do all my sports portraits that way...then $10 Next Day FedEx, and I've got boxes of memory mate, wallets, and buttons in no-time!

I just received one of their albums. By way of comparison, let me say this:

A 15 page (30 sides) 12x12" album, with cover, from PCL West costs about $400 to make and ship to me. When it arrives, people oh and ah over the thing. It's big. It's heavy. It's gorgeous. The image quality is outstanding. It feels like it's worth a lot of money.

I recently submitted an identical set of prints (formatted down to 10x10") to mpix to try out their albums. The idea was to find a "cheaper alternative" for those customers that don't want to pay the price I'm asking for the PCL West albums.

The cost for the mpix album was only $46 with shipping (nearly 1/10th the cost). If I had never seen the PCL West version of the album, I might have been happy. But the thin/flimsy pages, the lower quality printing on the pages, the cover ... everything about it spells cheap. My plan had been to market the mpix version for about half the price of what I charge for the PCL West version. But now I'm not so sure that I could even ask that much. I'm going to run it by a few customers to see what they think.

Don't get me wrong. If you ask me, do I think it's worth $46 the answer is a resounding yes. If you ask me how it compares to a $400 version of the same thing ... it's not even in the same ballpark. (I'm not saying this to criticize mpix, because the answer should be fairly obvious ... but I am saying it to let you know that there is even better stuff out there)

And, by the way ... I totally love their metallic prints.

You know, I did that for a while, but eventually I left the box unchecked and the photos came back perfect either way.

@ dwterry, did you upgrade to the linen paper? It is occasionally free so keep your eyes open for that. It is heavier than the regular paper and is beautiful with the prints on it.

I will have to try your PCL West printers though... thank you for a recommendation :)

I order all my prints from Mpix, they're awesome! I just had some photos done with the metallic paper and they turned out AMAZING! I've never had a bad experience with Mpix. Their prices are really reasonable and the shipping is super fast.
