Hi Computer Gurus:

Quick question please. Was wondering how I can transfer PS CS2 from old to new computer. Several problems. I can't find my original disc. I did legally purchase it and own the stuff, FYI. :) I recall from the agreement with Adobe that I can use the program on a different computer if I uninstall it in the previous. Would it work if I copied the program file to MyBook, uninstall from old computer, plug MyBook to new computer and load?

Thanks for any help you can give. You guys rock.

You will waste so much time and get so frustrated trying to pull this off that it would be better to get another copy and install from scratch.

You need to download a program that will capture all elements of the cs2 install on the old PC - the program directory, all registry keys, any dll's splattered about the system dirs, etc - and then package that up for the move to the new pc. Programs to do so are available but they cost money as well, so again probably just easier to bite the bullet and buy a new copy.

Bummer, I was afraid of that. I guess I will need to search harder for my old copy! :P

Thanks for the input!

Do you know your license number? If so I am sure you can request backup media from adobe or DL the application from a torrent, install it and plug in your license key.

Also, you can find someone who has CS2 and who is willing to send you the disk (without the license number) for you to install from and activate with your (valid) license number.

After deactivating PS from the old PC first, of course. :-)

First, did you register with Adobe? If so, then your information is already with them, and you may only have to get a new CD from them.

Second, if both are Windows XP boxes, it is supposed to be possible to network them peer-to-peer and transfer the application. I've never done that, preferring to install from scratch, but I know it is possible to do so.

Also, the Adobe license allows use on two computers (not concurrently though). So you technically don't even have to uninstall it from the old computer.

Super. Thanks for the suggestions! I did register all my purchases with them. I feel better knowing I don't have to spend the money--again--to buy the program. Much thanks!

If you have your license key, it is very possible that Adobe will let you download a copy of the software from their site. And, Many times (I am not sure with Adobe) you can download so-called trial software that is really the full version with limitations on them until the license key is entered.

Check with Adobe to see what they suggest. Couldn't hurt.

since you do have the legal key that you bought, you are allowed to make or use a backup copy of the program, downloading cs2 off of a bit torrent site and using your key would be legal since it is safe to say you have the legal rights to the program.

Darn it. I live in Idaho. I wonder how far of a drive that would be? LOL.

Woohoo. Found my photoshop 6.0 and cs2 upgrade, but have come across another problem. After uploading them, I see that neither photoshop nor bridge is reading nef files. I downloaded dng camera raw 3.7 zip file but still shows does not support file type. Also, it keeps asking me to register each time I open bridge/photoshop. Any ideas?

Thanks again!
