Breast CANCER Awareness.

Leroy, there are a finite number of moments when your fascination with the female form is truly a GOOD thing... this is one of them.

Hopefully people will take this seriously; maybe there could even be a fund-raiser to coincide? I pledge the first $50 (and we are BROKE this month!!!) Glenda & I attended our local Susan G. Komen 'Race for the Cure' last weekend, and I felt bad that we couldn't contribute then... well, I'm doing it now.

Langdon, I'm calling you out - if we can reach a certain dollar amount (say, $2500?) will you create this challenge? (PM sent @ 6:33 am EST today)

I HEREBY VOLUNTEER TO ACT AS TREASURER, AND GUARANTEE THAT 100% COLLECTED WILL BE DONATED TO THE ORGANIZATION VOTED ON BY THE MAJORITY OF CONTRIBUTORS. (eta - minus paypal fees on a business account, which I will TRY to get paypal to waive / match) Daily totals will be posted, along with making every single document publicly available.

I'll be back in a few minutes with (a)the initial deposit to my paypal account and (b)specific details on where to go, how to pay, etc.

more details to come...

eta - here's the screenshot of my PayPal deposit for $50:

LOL - things are so ironic in life... I'm a big believer of 'everything happens for a reason', 'what goes around, comes around', etc.

Glenda & I are personally involved in several volunteer / charitable causes. Many of you even know about the wedding we photographed for a terminally ill cancer patient, or about my new co-worker who is a breast cancer survivor, or even about my own mother whom we nearly lost to lung cancer 3 years ago. Just last night, Glenda said "Maybe we're meant to grow our business with a focus towards charity work"

Yeah, I looked up @ the TV, and "Pay It Forward" is coming on in 10 minutes (DirecTV, channel 245, 7 am...one of my all-time favorites). Yep, I'm taking this further.

Here we go... who's first to donate?!? hehe, wait, I was first! who's second?

Okay, I've created a clickable link, in the top right corner of my website (says 'DONATE'):

Click DONATE in top right corner of Ross Imagery

I can also create an email 'bill'. Just PM rossbilly (me), with your email address & the amount you'd like to donate.

eta - don't forget, this is also to get Langdon to agree to hold this challenge!

I get "page not found"
10/07/2007 09:32:11 AM · #7
Thank you Kashi.

As it's totally in HTML code, I've only managed to get it to work by putting it into my website. Anyone care to help make it work in the forums?

I also plan to place this in emails / forums / etc., so thanks for the help!

Ummm, maybe I knew this info that day too and then forgot I knew it... yeah, that's it.

I gave
e-mail says "This email confirms that you have paid Ross Imagery" Yay!

If more causes took paypal, I would give more to DPC member requests since I sock away a stash each pay period to my account. I would buy more gear...but it's not gear that makes the photographer.

YAAA!!! Thank you, one and all - we have already passed 6%!! Above what I expected for our first day (a slow Sunday at that!)

I can hardly wait to see the responses we get tomorrow!

OH! In case I forgot to mention, there is NO preset amount - its literally a blank spot, and you fill in whatever donation amount you would like. It works with credit cards, international currencies, other PayPal accounts... and Glenda says we give out free hugs to the first 50 contributors - well, if we ever have the pleasure of meeting you ;)

Have a good night everyone!

Maybe we can talk Langdon into a pink ribbon for the blue?

Great idea! (ba-da-BUMP) ;)

Funny thing. I am watching the local news last night and a story comes on about this guy that has breast cancer.

I know this will sound stupid but I never thought men could get this.

Adding the local news link I watched:
//www.myfoxatlanta.com/myfox/

Male Breast Cancer

So it is not only about saving the Ta-Tas

And to add DPC lost a member to this just 2 years ago:

You're right James - our local Susan G. Komen event was hosted by a survivor... and is a man.

Thanks for helping to bring more attention!

eta - still waiting to hear from Langdon ;)

Oh please no...

The world is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO saturated already with this. How about lung cancer? Colon cancer? Cancers or diseases that affect MORE people than breast cancer?

I've held my tongue on this, but really. Breast cancer IS bad, I've had relatives with it, but still, the ratio of attention to effect is way out of proportion. And that Komen walk is such nonsense too... My sis-in-law did it and they REQUIRE a certain HUGE amount of particpation (like $3800 in donations) just to be able to walk. Let people raise/contribute whatever they can.

Perhaps we just do an PSA (public service announcement) challenge and let people pick their cause.

Please don't turn this into a political debate. If you don't want to support the cause the keep your mouth shut.

Thank you.

#1. What did I say that was political?

#2. Who peed in your cornflakes today to make you so AGGRESSIVELY HOSTILE to reasoned, dissenting opinion?

#3. Who made you leader of the world?

#4. The post is about the suggestion of a challenge. Last time I checked, this was not a site for only "yes-men" to reply. If I feel there is a reason for not doing it (or in support of it) I have every right to reply.

So...

Please don't turn this into hate-speech. If you don't like discussion, then keep YOUR mouth shut.

Thank you.
