I'm editing the original post to maintain updated information about the itinerary of the GTG and the list of people who will be attending. Here's who I have so far -- please let me know if you would like to be added or removed from the list:

PhilipDyer -- fruit
jdannels -- hot dogs with fixin's
macpapas -- veggie tray
EstimatedEyes -- friend-making salad
SFAlice -- vegetables, pasta salad w/Sicilian oregano
Blue Moon -- freshly caught fish and chips
C_Steve_G -- freshly cut cheese
CrazyStripesss -- crackers for the aforementioned cheese
ephin -- fruit and maybe meat
cogerox -- curried chicken salad experiment
rjkstesch -- drinks, plates, utensils, napkins
Dziuggy
Zeuss -- Gas & a big bucket o' fried chicken
william88 - Veggie Japanese cold noodles
BrennanOB -- stupor-inducing beverages

Please PM me to be added to the list.

So far, we know that we will be meeting on Sunday, July 15, at Point Reyes. Here are some suggestions for what we can do on Sunday:

Tim Kelly (AKA Rasai) sent me a very nice and detailed description of a motorcycle rally that will be going on that morning. The info is right here: West Marin County Loop Ride.

Since it's so spread out, I would suggest that anyone who wants to can just go check out that ride on their own. Let's make our first meeting place the Bear Valley Visitor's Center. You'll see the road to the visitor's center on the left as soon as you get into Olema. Can people make it there by 10:00 or should we make it later? From there, we can break into groups by trail (or all go together) and then meet back at the center at 12:30 for a PICNIC LUNCH.

Following lunch, we should head straight for the light house. After that, we can go to Elephant Seal Overlook since it's very close by and will require driving through all those cows in the open farmland.
From there, we can head up north to McClure's Beach. Along the way, we might see some Tule Elk. Anyone who is feeling particularly adventurous can hike the Tamales Point Trail instead of going to the beach, but I think it's about 3 miles each way. Me, I'm going to the beach. If anyone still has room on their CF cards, we can swing by Abbott's Lagoon after that.

After a day of shooting, we should all meet up for dinner and chimping. We should probably count on doing this at the Station House Cafe since they're nearby and open until 9:00.

Please let me know if you have any feedback or other suggestions. Once we finalize this itinerary, I'll pick out 2 or 3 meeting points where we can be sure to be at certain times so that people can join the group at whatever time they can make it. This is probably the only way to accommodate people's schedules since there's very limited cell phone reception up there. All feedback and suggestions welcome!

Here's the consensus so far. I'll edit this as necessary based on feedback:

10:00 -- Bear Valley Welcome Center hiking trails
12:30 -- Bear Valley Welcome Center potluck picnic (picnic area across from center)
2:30 -- Point Reyes Lighthouse
5:00 -- McClure's Beach
8:00 -- Station House Cafe

I'll be moving to the West Coast in a few weeks and will be temporarily planted in Marysville for a month or two. It's a little far, but I might be able to make it out that way. I'll keep an eye on this thread to see how things progress. I won't actually be out there until after the 9th sometime. :)

If we get together before July 21st, I should be able to make it! We've done candids and kites - let's go for some landscape shots this time! Muir Woods, Mt Tam, Point Reyes all sound good to me!

Marysville is hot. :) but good to have three F/stops not too far away, You'll have to let me know when you got some free time and we can go shoot some photos. :) I am a little under two hours away from you.

I wasn't around here the last time one of these was held, but I'd be up for one now if its mid-July or later (off to florida and costa rica next week and not back til after the 4th) second the point reyes/mt tam/muir woods ideas.

I'll watch the thread to see what develops ...

Forget the Bay Area, let's all go with Dennis to Costa Rica! ;-) Actually, it sounds like we're getting some consensus around the location and date. It looks like mid-July works for most people so far. Does Saturday, July 14, sound good? And Point Reyes is a nice diverse location for shooting. Otherwise, the Muir Woods / Mount Tam combo is always nice.

C'mon down .. the more the merrier! ;>P

I've got tix to the Giants-Dodgers game on the 14th, so the 15th would be better if that works. If not, no worries ...the way they've been playing lately I'll be happy to pitch the tix and join you all on the 14th.

Great to see this thread. It's been a long time since those kites on the bay in Berkeley! I would happily go to Pt. Reyes or Mt. Tam; both are welcoming to shoot-from-the-car folk like me and hikers. Unfortunately, my Gallery is hosting a reception that day and I'm tied up for the entire weekend. (We've invited an artist who specializes in nature watercolors, mostly birds, to show and it's going to be quite an event.) But most of my July is a little crazy, anyhow...

I'll keep track of the thread just in case.

Woo-hoo! Yeah, count me in for the 14th(or 15th, or any weekend day)...I'm so excited, but I'm gonna feel so wimpy with my little powershot next to all of your crazy lenses 0.0

You are next generation. Your camera has more zoom range than my total lenses combined :)

As one of the unfortunates that work every Saturday, I vote for Sunday the 8th/15th or 29th.
The County Fair season will be on, also...

The 23rd, I'm likely committed to MotoGP at Laguna Seca, 'cause I ain't giving up on motorsports photography, yet.

Forget Point Reyes and Costa Rica -- let's go to the Giants-Dodgers game! Okay, maybe I'm too easily swayed. Since Dennis and Gaurawa are busy on July 14th, does Sunday the 15th work for everybody? And do we also have consensus about Point Reyes?

And of course I was just kidding about the P&S thing, Leah. It'll be great to meet you and to see how you keep outscoring all of us SLR owners with your PowerShot. :-)

I am good for either the 14th or 15th, and I like Point Reyes too, but I will go where the group wants. :) I don't see any work I have to do that weekend so I should be free.

Redding, Marysville...I'm in Chico. Sounds like we need a GTG a little farther North. Not to hijack the thread :(

Okay, it sounds like we have a decision -- Point Reyes on Sunday, July 15. I'll talk with our resident Point Reyes experts (Joe and Alice) and see if we can come up with an itinerary for the day. I'm really looking forward to seeing all of you again and to meeting the new people as well!

Sent you a PM. :) I'll be heading up North to Longview, WA in a month or two.

Thanks Bryan! :)

I probably won't know until the last minute whether I'll be able to make it or not, but I'll keep watching this thread and will be happy to go wherever you guys decide. :)

Sounds great! CrazyStripesss (my daughter) and I will be there. Thanks for putting this together ... looking forward to meeting everybody.
