I like the general tones ... but the sky looks pretty grainy ...

pretty good. i'd say it's a bit oversharpened. the sky could use some work to get rid of the noise. and the barn could maybe be dodged a tad to bring out the highlights on the side facing the viewer.

What can I do to reduce the noise in the sky? The reason it is so noisy is because I split the channels to convert to b&w and used the red channel for the sky. It had the most contrast but came with the noise. The other two channels had nothing of the clouds. That said, I have neat image and CS2. I still don't know a lot about the settings to use on either to reduce noise but either way I don't want an all over adjustment right??? |

just bought neatimage which I think works very well. Here is the link to the mac verison -- they also have a win version.

you could also create a mask revealing the sky, and run a gaussian blur on the masked layer. it's possible your levels and curves adjustments created the noise in the sky. if the shot was underexposed you'll have to find a way to deal with it rather than re-editing to avoid it.
you could also run neatimage on the masked layer - but you'll need to purchase the app in order to use the plugin feature - the demo runs as a standalone app and doens't allow selective adjustments. you could run the demo on the entire file - load that into PS and then drop it on top of the un-neatimaged file, and erase the areas from the neatimaged layer where the noise reduction isn't an issue - via a mask ideally.
