Been having up and down last few days...

Sunday, my Sigma 17-35 crapped out completely - while shooting for the Dead End challenge. Its toast. Unfortunately, I have two assignments today that required a fast lens. I was planning on the 17-35 to get me through. ARGH!

Monday, I go to a local camera retail store to purchase a Tamron 28-75 2.8 to use for Tuesday. They don't have one. They suggest their larger store 2 towns away. Rather than go all the way over there, I call. I say I need a price on a Tamron lens for a Canon. He asks, "Is it for a camera?" Totally serious - I'm not lying.

Go home - know I MUST get something but no one close has anything in stock. Amazon does and they have overnight shipping! Yeehaa. And they have a 5% customer appreciation discount, which covered my shipping. I go to sleep last night thinking the world is wonderful.

I wake up this morning and hop on the computer to find out where the polling places are that I have to go to. ARGH! Nothing happens! My monitor is dead. I rush to Best Buy. I must have a monitor to edit and send my pictures in by 10PM tonight! Best Buy is closed - no electricity. ARGH! So I drive to the next closest best buy 20 miles away. And they have a monitor. And I can afford it. So I got the monitor.

And UPS just dropped off the lens. And I tested it! Works!!

All in all, taking pictures of the elctions today and the Mayor's victory party (he's running unopposed so its not a big deal) has set me back $900.

But, I have a new lens!

That's reason enough to be happy, isn't it?

Just did some shooting at the polling place. A few things:
This lens is noisy! This lens is contrasty. This lens is fast! Its had some problems autofocusing in the dim areas of the voting location, but overall I'm happy.

The monitor I might return tomorrow. It works okay but I'm not sure its really what I want. Its a Sony 19" LCD. I had a Sony Trinitron 20" so that's why I picked this one. I notice the difference just by looking at my Dead End entry. I'm now rather embarrassed. I think the only reason its scoring well is because other people obviously have monitors darker/dimmer than mine. Oh well...
