The Strange Case of the Missing Ass...

So many have commented upon Karma's missing hindquarters that I thought I'd explain: she was in the act of climbing out of a ditch when some birds broke cover behind me and she snapped to rapt attention. Since this was by FAR the best picture I've made of her face, I went ahead and entered her sans ass and hoped for the best. For more details on Karma and her job in my life, read the photographer's comments on the entry. If anyone has any questions about assistance dogs and their roles, I'd be happy to answer them.

This is a great photo of the dog -- and having had a black dog that looked very similar I understand how hard it is to photograph. But one question nags at me about this -- if it was the face you were proud of and the hind quarters that concerned you, why didn't you crop more closely. Head and shoulders would have likely placed you in the top 10.

I imagine it was a desire to include the badge of honor that signifies the important job she does -- in which case it is completely understandable.

Nice portrait by any means.

It was the whole environmental thing; I wanted her in the natural surround. I tried the crop, and it just didn't seem right. In this particular shot, to crop to a headshot left awkward bits of treetops or came in too close. But yes, you're right, it was important to me to include her uniform, she always has that on except at home.

I have to laugh, in the thumbnail it really looks like she's missing her butt but once you click on it you can see what happened. I gave that shot an 8 only because of the missing backside and the light seemed just off a tad. Nice capture though.

The lighting on the grass just looks funny to me on my screen. I know it's natural because your outside and yes, my screen is calibrated, but the grassy area lighting seems off for some reason. More my preference than anything else probably. Is that as clear a mud yet? :) :)

That's me messing with hue/saturation to get some color in there; it was really blah looking. I mean, there was some new green and some dead grass, and it was overall real bland so I goosed it a little; evidently, too much for you.

LOLOLOL. YOU'D think so wouldn't yah? Funny thing is I'm an aging hippie, so matters of karma are part of my history of course. When NEADS called to say they had a dog for me, and told me her name was "Karma", I just laughed hysterically.
