Hi, I wonder if someone can help me pls.
My camera (Canon 550 D) resets the date to the default 01.01.2000 when I change batteries :-(. It has done so for a couple of years now. I sometimes remember to set the date again, but it is a bit of PT plus sometimes I need to rush and then forget. The shots recently in the game reserve were such a case. My Wildebeast DQed because of the reset date. Its tiresome :-(.
Any ideas/suggestions if there is a setting to stop the resetting? Or anything else I can do?

I am not familiar with that camera but suspect there is a battery that is used to retIn the time etc. I recall mine was in the battery compartment on my 40D so may be worth ch cling there and replacing this battery. It was one of those flat round batteries.

every digital camera should have inside a back up battery to memorize data when you change the battery; maybe yours has gone and you need to substitute it

Oh shoot, that's what it was? I was wondering how you found an archived image from the year 2000 :-( Do what they say, replace the backup (tiny) battery that keeps the camera alive when the big battery's absent or depleted. Unfortunately, we can't make any exceptions to the date rule :-(

A quick Google indicated that there was only the 1 main battery for a Canon 550 D. Usually, this data is written to internal firmware. So, methinks you need to get the camera looked at byu a service center.

As Robert G. posted, it does not appear that there is a user-replaceable clock battery in the T2i (550D). There definitely *is* a clock battery, however. So if you don't want to continually have to remember to reset date/time, it does look like service is required.

Dammmm...I saw not exactly same but something else in 5D M4, it resets the number and not the date time. Every time I have battery and card swapped, it resets the number back to 1.

That sounds more like an option you can set in some menu ...

If it's not in the programming of the camera maybe you should check to see your have the latest firmware.
If a new Version is available it may fix the problem.

Thank you everyone. Your input is always much appreciated.
Sorry about the late reply.

I know the date rule won't be tampered with. No problem. I just want to fix it. Its annoying :-).
I will trundle off to the camera shop, see what they have to say.

Learned 2 days ago that a lens (yes, a lens) also needs a firmware update occasionally!
My word,IT never ceases to amaze me :-)
