YUP!!!
March 9th-15th I will be going to ICELAND!!!!
Me and my beautiful girlfriend booked the flight yesterday during a sale that was going on. I am beyond excited!!!
There will be plenty of planning to do so please please please post links, photos, tips, tricks, places to see, or anything else your heart desires! I will be posting my general itinerary once we have an idea of our traveling plan on the island. Once that happens I would LOVE some help navigating the spots or finding those hidden gem's.
Please don't be shy on suggesting things to do or places to see! We are on a budget but if the attraction is worth it, I'm willing to spend the money to see it. Anything is fair game for us!
Can you tell I'm excited??? |

You'll need some assistance with schlepping all the gear. I'll do it for nothing. Just send me a ticket. Wendy and I will bunk up to save you some $$. |

Is there anything that I need to know when it comes to camera equipment protection?
What I mean by this is, I've heard of cracked glass when going from REALLY cold (outdoor) to REALLY warm (indoor).
Thoughts? |

Cracked glass sounds pretty extreme and is probably rare, however, the conditions you describe seem primed to create a significant condensation problem. When you bring the camera in keep it in the camera bag or other (partially) insulated container and let it warm up slowly. |

Being from FL the humidity is nuts here. So I do know this part... I wonder how humid it will be there...? |

It's not the humidity itself, it'll be cold there so when you go inside your camera will get fogged up (and vice versa when you go from warm to cold).
It would need to be REALLY cold for you to get cracked lenses. I lived in Finland for 12 yrs and had extreme cold (-25 Celsius) and managed to take photos without any problem whatsoever, aside from the above mentioned fogging when moving from hot to cold or cold to hot.
This was taken at around -30 C

If you are worried about cold... then I would suggest you stay away from Canada, since the average temperature in Iceland in March pales by comparison to the much colder weather we experience here.

Already one of the world's most expensive destinations, Iceland is considering introducing a new tax on tourists in a bid to prevent overcrowding |

This image happened because I didn't let my camera come to room temp before I used it going from single digit (F) temps outside.
I thought it was kinda cool.....pun intended!

Is renting a 4wd car seriously worth it? I hear all over that it's almost a requirement...

I'm sorry, you'll send funds whenever needed? I don't understand. Lol.
And of course I'll be safe. Contrary to most 26 year old guys (I'll be 27 when the trip comes around), I'm actually pretty relaxed when it comes to being dangerous. Maybe a few small things here and there that could get me into trouble but overall, I'm kinda boring when it comes to dangerous activity. Lol. |
