What the heck???

I have the obligatory twelve pound DSLR/superzoom/battery grip that any self-respecting old school, old fart, set in his ways photog should.

I was at work where a friend of the garage is restoring/resto-modding a 1970 Chevelle, and I liked the setting with him grinding on the front section of the frame.

So...

I grabbed my Android and lo and behold.....

A friggin' HM

What's even worse is that other than some light cropping and some clarity adjustment (from a preset, no less) the image is all but straight from the phone.

Crap.... I'm *so* annoyed with myself.

Another illusion shattered.

Next I'll be looking at mirrorless for the size and convenience....AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!

These new phone things take some good pictures. When I bring out my DSLR I get the "what the heck is that look" from my hiking group. Of course, all of them use their phones.

Oh, and congrats on the HM. I would not have know it was from a cell phone.

welcome!

It's now my firm belief that as far as image quality goes, at DPC scale you can't tell the difference between the new camera phones and the "real" camera shots. I'm using my Samsung 8+ more and more, and it's freed me up quite a bit. Welcome to the brave new world, Jeb!

Yes, WELCOME to 2017!

It's a wonderful portrait.

Hey Jeb--I've been shooting with my iPhone camera for a while now & my experience is if I want a nice clear sharp shot the iPhone camera does a good job. But I often want a blurry mess, & this is a bigger challenge, so then I go back to a 'real camera.' All cameras are fun, each in their own way.

My husband isn't into photography, but he has a Samsung 8, and he gets clearer shots than I do with whatever camera I have along at the time.

My old phone still had a 2mp camera and I hardly ever used it, but I bought a Samsung J5 Prime about two weeks ago and I'm hoping that I'll actually use its camera sometimes. For now I'm still much more comfortable using a real camera.

I have yet to enter anything with my phone.

I suppose when I upgrade, I'll try my hand at it.

Thinking about what I said yesterday, I doubt I'll ever feel comfortable using the camera in my phone. My hands aren't steady and I need the weight of my DSLR to avoid camera shake.
