Two figures for whom, and for whose works, I am grateful. I doubt they would be scratching each other's eyes out, but so what anyway...

I confess that Basquiat is beyond my comprehension. A friend of mine is friends with his widow, and wrote The Widow Basquiat

Preposterous prices - they started in the 80s when we could literally get our coats stained by the paint in the subway

Thank you for that. In my opinion, however, Banksy is my favorite living artist, and the most relevant. He is the messiah that John Berger predicted.

Went through it quickly but did enjoyed the article.

For me, Basquiat's work spills out and Banksy's is served. The vulnerability and temporariness of street art are hard to resist. Unlike art on galley walls, it will not look the same next time you visit. This short and unpredictable life makes us savor the moment, reflect on the past, or anxiously wait for what's to come.
