I am a RAW shooter and because of my preferred genre of photography a lot of it has a narrow DoF. So when I went out to shoot for the 'A Part of a Thing' challenge I remember the 'Narrow DoF' challenge needed JPG. So about 1/2 way thru the day I switched to RAW + JPG and imported everything into LR like I always do.

If I go into the actual folder where the images are stored I see the ORF and JPG images. In LR it shows that there is an ORF and JPG image but only gives me the ORF file to edit. I know I can copy the JPG image to another folder and import into LR and edit it, yes I know I can only clone out sensor spots and sharpen (which is what I want to do). But does anyone know a way to get LR to separate the RAW from JPG images? It would make going thru the JPG's to find the best shot a lot easier.

Now I remember why I don't typically enter minimal challenges.

Edit-> Preferences->General->Import Options-> Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate photos

Restart Lightroom
Next time you import you can edit raw and jpeg separately

Thanks, but is there any way to do it now that the files are already imported?

Not sure what you see. Is there a small square with a number top left of the image. If so the RAW and JPG are stacked. Right click on the image and Stacking -> Unstack

I have previously done as tiberius suggested and you have the ORF file as well as the JPG file that you can edit. That was on my old computer and I forgot to change that setting when I setup my new computer. Since I never shoot JPG, I didn't even think to change that setting when setting up the new computer (can't even remember why I had it setup that way on my old computer, had to be for another minimal challenge). If I do it that way it will also auto stack them if I click the right option in the settings, which is what you are thinking.

Without changing that setting and telling LR to treat them as separate files it throws the associated JPG into the sidecar file with no apparent way to edit the JPG. I know I can re-import the JPG's and have access to them in LR, but I would rather not do that if there is a way to separate them out of the sidecar files LR has them in. FYI, in the folder where the files are actually stored the JPG's are separate files. This is also going to make deleting all the JPG files a pain, there is no reason to take up hard drive space for files that I will honestly never use.

Maybe you can try this:

1) in the "General" section of "Preferences" where it says: [ ] Treat JPEG files next to Raw files as separate photos.
Turn that option ON (so that JPG+RAW files show up as a single file in LR)

2) decide on a folder you're going to work on, then right-click on the folder and select "Synchronize folder...".

Thanks, that did the trick
