I wanted to thank skewsme and Art for telling me about lensrentals. I rented a Sony a6500 for a week and what an experience! (the company, not the camera. I had eye problems, so it was hard to tell with the camera just because of sight difficulty... I'll try again in a bit.)

But anyway, great company! I placed the order. It arrived promptly. It was packed incredibly well. Big, strong pelican case. Inside was a wonderful camera bag (can't remember the brand, maybe lowepro?). The camera was packed nicely in the soft case, the adapter was in a lens case.

Inside was the prepaid return shipping label and absolutely perfect instructions on how to pack it back in the same box and ship it back. The even included packing tape with which to reseal the box!

I was hesitant to rent a camera or lens, but they made it so easy, I will do this again with no hesitation!

Thanks again! What a find!

I've used them several times, always a fantastic experience.

I just rented a 200-500mm Nikon lens for my Africa trip, and it was phenomenal. I couldn't possibly endorse them more.

I use them often. I rent an extra body when i shoot weddings.

The last time there was an issue with shipping (if I remember there was bad weather somwhere in the country and messed up shipping everywhere), anyhow,i like to get the body a day early so i can test it out and if there is a problem i can get a replacement overnighted.

Instead, I had to pick it up the day of the wedding, lensrentals refunded the shipping, charged me a reduced rental and gave me a future credit for free shipping.

Highly recommend them.

Glad to hear, Wendy. But not surprising. They're the best! I have rented from them 30+ times over the past ten years and have paid for the annual "HD" membership (free shipping) for about four of those years. They've never let me down.

yes, and there are rentals available on the west coast. it is the expert mailing features that we lack. interesting that the reason given for lensrentals not shipping to Canada is our unsatisfactory mail/delivery system. so good on the usa!

I did rent Vistek's rental Bigma lens...and it was in disgusting shape. It worked, which is the only good thing I have to say about it. Otherwise it was sticky to the touch, zoom barely worked, looked like nobody had cleaned the lens forever. Will never rent from them again.

Thanks for this post!!!

I was seriously wanting to buy a lens but wanted to rent first and my local business does not even have that lens to rent, this really gives me comfy feeling knowing that I can jump and go for it before spending the money for the lens I think I may be wanting :-)

I am debating between the pentax Lens or a Tameron..

That sucks. I rented a Canon 70-200 2.8 from them a few years ago, no issues and I got a great price since they considered the weekend as one day. So I picked it up on Friday afternoon and returned it Monday morning for a single day rate.

fwiw, i have a friend getting ready to go to SE Asia for a month. he's got a canon 70D with a kit lens (the 35-200) and a Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM. he was thinking he might want to that might work a bit better in low light (like the 16-35 f/2.8L or 24-70 f/2.8L, but he's not ready to drop a grand or so on another lens. i suggested he consider renting one.

i remembered this thread and a number of people raving about the company, but couldn't remember which company so i did a search. low and behold, i found another thread about a rental company.

after comparing the two services, i think i would probably recommend my friend consider lensrental. even though both are fairly evenly matched on price, lensrental offers theft coverage, where borrowlenses does not. for less than a buck a day, it's worth it.

thanks again, dpc, for offering up solutions. even though the decrepit interface is akin to digging through the dead sea scrolls, there is still good stuff here.

I wish we had a place in Canada that carried that much equipment. The only place I can find doesn't have Pentax. Of course.

Nothing local rents Pentax either.
