(I actually was above 6 until the last two votes. Dropped .3)

Votes are coming in quite slowly on this one.

It's funny, the rules suggest that it should be a shot that you figure should be a 6xxxx, and I almost didn't enter it.

I actually think it's kind of dull, but I got two terrific comments on how nice it is.

My score started in the high 4s and is now scrambling up to stay at 5.3 territory. Gets up almost to 5.4 then dinged. Back up to almost 5.4, etc. Often my sleepers do well eventually, but it seems that it won't be the case this time...*sigh*

Rules state that YOU would score it a 6. That is what made this challenge so difficult.

PM it to me. :P

Obviously I can't DNMC any of them until after voting. You can bet I'll be handing out citations then.

Well... You could...

You obviously need to guess who shot every one, first!

That would be amusing: guess who did each shot.

All I know is there's one photo in here that I would have given my eye teeth (and a couple of molars) to have/been able to have taken. If it's out of character, I don't know why!!! How could you not do those shots all the time. *sigh*

The title of this thread reminds me of "you need feet" from the Dick Van Dyke show.

You need feet: fast forward to 21:30

Oops. This was supposed to go into the hands thread. On my way to work. I'll move this later. Sorry!

Did I misunderstand the challenge? I thought it was to take a picture that was different from your typical entry - not to show something that was out of character.

Regardless of the entry, my score is perfectly in character...

Yeah, I'm rambling today and not making much sense. I was just meaning that if whoever could shoot an incredible photo like that, I wonder why they wouldn't do it all the time. If I could, if be shooting that type of photo for every single shot.

But it's like an artist friend I had. He drew the grossest, weirdest things. Once he drew a rabbit. I swore I could lift it off the page and pet it. But it was so out of character for him. I asked him why he didn't do more nature images and he said "those aren't challenging. You just look at it and draw."

It is interesting what styles/subjects, etc. That people like to do.

Meanwhile, us regular peeps who actually take risks and don't just enter safe pix ad nauseum are now breathing the heady air of 5.6xxx. Oooh....

Wow... all the sudden I'm not sure how to vote on this one!!

I started voting just on what I appreciate/don't appreciate. And then it didn't seem appropriate. If people truly tried to step out of character on this, it seems like the voting should be a lot more open-minded. If the photographer can step out of their comfort zone, the voters should be able to, as well. (To be fair, that's why I feel that I've learned so much from this site, because I try to look deeper at photos and figure out "why in the heck someone would take a photo like that!?" That's why my appreciation for blurry messes has significantly changed over the years. :)

Anyway, I have to start over. I want to try to see the photos through the eyes of a photographer who's not used to that specific character of photo. Why this? Why this processing choice? Why this subject? Somehow knowing that these are out of character shots makes it feel like the searching should go a bit deeper.

Yet one more reason I'm here until DPC or the internet ceases to exist: It's yet again trying to get me to look at things in a different way.

You have rated 47 of 47 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 3 images (6%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.2128.

I will try to comments more if you will.

edit to add that 6.2 IS out of character for me, but there is a lot worthwhile seeing in this challenge, IMO.

I am definitely out of my comfort zone here and the middling votes show that. (It was also a lazy shot, to be honest.) Problem with this challenge is it relies on the honor system. One could easily enter something you are good at and nobody would know until voting was over and it would still stand, as it is your own judgement as to why it is out of character for you.
