It's been two months since we started the experiment with the 2-week submission window for regularly scheduled challenges. As promised, we're now polling you, the members, to see how you feel about it after playing this way for a time. Is it making your life easier? Are you happier? Do you yearn for the adrenaline rush of the old days, when the deadline was always looming?

Feel free to discuss the pros and cons in this thread, and make your opinion known in the poll, which will be up for one week starting today.

We need a third choice for the people who don't mind either way.

If it's increased participation (do we have stats?), then I'm all for it. If the stats haven't changed, then I'm for the "old way".

I have really enjoyed having more challenges up at a time whether participation has increased or not. It was overwhelming to view and consider at first, but once it got going and I got used to it, not so much.

absolutely positive about this 2 weeks submission.

Without the 2 weeks submission no chance for me to be part of the game, so I am definitely for the new DPC version.

I've been able to enter more challenges because of the 2 week submission, IMHO it's a positive change. Let's keep it!

I haven't taken advantage of it, but I am glad for the extended opportunities. I would vote to keep it.

I like it for sure, that extra time really does help. I have enjoyed it emensely. My last photoshop project almost took that much time to get completed.

I understand you must do what is best for the site community. I want to personally thank all of the SC for the opportunity to at least try the 2 week challenges for a while.

No matter what has been decided, you will have my support.

Without a doubt this is a good enhancement. When u are working all week at a desk and can't get out in morning or evening to take photos having the extra weekend is really helpful. So my vote is definitely to keep it

It would be interesting to see how this would work out during the next DPL -

Love the two week period, even though I haven't had chance to submit or take part recently. Hoping this will change in the coming weeks.

THis is one of the reasons why a DPL hasn't happened as soon as we'd hoped; it will require recoding and Langdon understandably wants to be sure 2 weeks is a permanent thing before he undertakes it.

It's okay, but not better. I find the pace too slow. The feedback loop is prolonged. For me, it seems like challenge entries have not increased. (Maybe we could see the stats!) Voting rates and scores seem depressed. Comments have become less substantive. Two weeks seems an unnatural rhythm, although I hear the lip service being paid to longer submission times allowing more entries. (Again, let's see the numbers.) I fear two weeks simply exacerbates procrastination, without generating general growth of participation.

I'm sure I'm in a small minority. I just liked the way it used to be.

I really want two weeks to stay. I don't enter everything, never have, but it is helpful to have multiple possibilities to shoot for when I do go somewhere interesting.

I'm finding that I went from entering every challenge, to hardly entering at all. I think the tight schedule kept me going. I also lost interest after 3 weeks (from beginning to end). I didn't even know what was rolling over last night. When I got back from my trip a month ago, it was easier to find things to shoehorn because of the long entry time, so even on those, I didn't go out and shoot specifically for it, like I used to.

At the end of the two weeks, I also don't end up shooting much last minute, because it seems like the images I submit have to be even better because there was more time to do it. It's like the guilty feeling you have when you forget valentine's day and end up buying the last broken rose that's at the gas station.

It does seem that there are more entries -- which is good. It doesn't seem to have increased the number of people voting, however. That seems like it's remained the same. And the forums have stayed just as quiet. So more entries are good, but how do we get it to translate to more activity?

Agree with Jomari - love having more possibilities when I go somewhere interesting - please keep the 2 weeks.

Shouldn't the poll run for two weeks instead of one?

I can see how this is the case. Maybe for you it's best to pick just one and concentrate on making that the best it can be...?

Just a quick question, do you think inviting people from the past who have been very active would make a difference? I saw someone new on one of the forums who didn't look familiar to the usual crowd, checked out her past folio and ask her to come back and join in and after a while she texted me back to thank me and said she had just rejoined and would try to participate more often. Some of you have been here for many years and have gotten familiar with people who no longer participate except maybe to vote in the open challenges or go to the forums. It would make me feel good that I hadn't been forgotten if someone from the past reached out to me to let me know I've been missed. Just a thought. I also have invited a number of friends from my Facebook page to check DPChallenge out. I'm posting photo of my past challenges and have gotten quite a response. I'm hoping to get more people here in Arkansas to check us out.

Thank you for the community outreach! Yes, officially we have done it in the past (a Masters challenge, I believe), with excellent results. But I would encourage any current member who misses a previous member to reach out and invite them back.
