There are no winners when people with hats cry and fall fast while being chased by bulls in a landscape.

I've always thought (and often said) that the challenge topics need to be more open... more people will enter if they can find a way that they enjoy... to meet the challenge topic.

For instance: Green

That can be trees (for the landscape folks)
Closeup of a grasshopper (for the out of doors folks and macro folks)
A green vase (for the glass folks)

Etc...

Make the challenge topics as broad and inclusive as possible to promote more entries and more enjoyment by more folks.

But, that's just my opinion. I don't run the place. :D

No, just a summary of current challenges ;)

In my not so humble opinion.....where's the CHALLENGE in that???

Isn't that the name of the game?

ETA: For me, part of what has always been an attraction for DPC *IS* the struggle to meet a challenge.

You can always post on FB if you want the mindless, insipid oohs & ahs....

So, how do you like having 2 weeks to submit now? Lost some of the "Challenge" in DPChallenge with that extra week also (at least IMO). :)

Oh, I don't know, I've actually been able to submit to a challenge now, which I would not have been able to do if it was still only one week. I'm in favour of the two week period if it actually encourages more participation.

I don't think those of us who procrastinate until the last couple of days have noticed a significant difference ... ;-)

We need challenges that encourage us to enter and participants who want to vote. Until that happens, DPC is on a slide.
Bovine is a difficult one for those who live in the city, but most of them have been possible... even the landscapes, even if there's a little imagination required. We do have to remember that this is a photography site. If it's too much of a challenge to take a picture, there won't be entries at all. But we don't want things to be too easy for us either..... there's a fine line there.

Overall I like having the extra weekend available to shoot so the two week thing is a go for me. Some will find more choices very appealing. Others might be daunted by the number of challenges to shoot for, but they'll get used to it.

Sorry to those who disagree with me, but IMO the problem is voting. All that voting open on the front page and nobody does it. It seemed to be going better for a few weeks there, but on the challenge that ended last night only 29 out of 76 participants voted on my image. And only 59 votes in total were received. That concerns me about this site more than anything else. I'll keep plugging no matter what, but we need something to light a spark if we want to grow.

I wonder if there could be maybe a top 10 voter list - something along the lines of the comment club top commenter list? Maybe it could be rolling, so top 10 voters of the past month so that it could maybe change frequently. Or would this lead to some folks just throwing out votes as fast as they could to be on the list?

Or maybe despite the low numbers those of us that do vote almost all vote 100% and we would just have a 30 place tie for top voter in the past month?

Edit to add that I love the two week submit period. But not loving any of the challenges at the moment. (But this follows a period I entered a bunch. Ebbs and flows.)

The all-time list is on the top-right ...

We can skip this challenge and just award Paul the blue already right?

I live in IA so cows are easy! Just the matter of getting on the private property :)

Ha! I thought the exact same thing when I read the challenge.

I was just thrilled that there was no water or landscape involved...

So... I'm gonna give it my best.

There are still TWO ribbons to be had!

LOL!

I'm with you Lydia on your comment. For myself I love the beach and ocean as much as the next person but would rather be there. It's like a football game on TV, I can't stand the noise but love to watch a good game in person. The ocean shots are becoming very boring. I am most intrigued with the geometric shots in which you can find in everyday life.

Reading this thread, my conclusion, you can't please all of the people all of the time. So some of the people some of the time is is a good compromise.

Most of us can't enter all the challenges due to various constraints, location, timing, etc. There have been a few landscape challenges recently, I'm OK with that. I'd take those over looking at pictures of pets, frogs, squirrels any day of the week :)

If you think DPChallenge has too many challenges right now ... OR, if you think there's not ENOUGH - check this place out. 59 active photo contests in one location. I considered the place, but I don't need another $$$ subscription.

I work on what I can and what interests me an don't worry about what I cannot do. It's great if someone has the time and puts forth the effort trying to do all the challenges. I appreciate all you do.
I'm like the marathon runner. I'm in for the long haul. Learning something new everyday. Yahoo for those who are with me. I doubt I'll be a great well-known photographer, but I will be as good as I can and who knows that 3 I have right now may turn out to be my first 6. If I drop back down to a 2 I think I will most definitely deserve a fancy ribbon. What do you think?
