Start posting your JULY essays here. Starting earlier than June 30 to accommodate travel and estival vacations.

Please link your photo essays to a DPC thumbnail, regardless of where your essay is published. This thumbnail will represent your cover image. To keep things simple, make essay comments on the cover image. Having this information in one place makes it easier to see the communities opinions and thoughts. We don’t have a panel to judge these essays so your comments are appreciated.

URBAN COLORS - VENETIAN RED

A reliable dark, dull orange red, and formerly made with natural red iron oxide, Venetian red of commerce is an artificial preparation of iron oxide. Although made from iron ore or the waste material of chemical industries, it's closely related to the red earths and has very similar properties. The color of Venice.

Originally from Asia Minor, Sinopia ("Sinoper, "Sinope") was mined in Cappadocia and exported to Europe through the port of Sinope, a Greek colony on the Black Sea. There are many variations in its hues: a light and warm tone is Venetian Red, or Mars Red; darker, more cool-toned purple versions are called Indian Red, Mars Violet or Caput Mortuum.

Venetian Red permeates everything and flows across mediums like light; one can find it on a wall or a chair, in the food or on the masks, in a fold of a fabric or reflected in the canals water.

These are little mementos from a photo album which is yet, another work in progress.

Here's mine. Unfortunately, it only "works" with the sound added, so click on the link in the image description. Have your earphones ready.
