Here is my 4th place entry

Here are the other 6 I was considering.

I am guessing I picked the best one.

had a different processing I had submitted, but chickened out at the last moment, almost used it and prob should have, but it was the same processing I had for the yard signst moment.

Entry was unremarkable.

Preferred outtake (but not graveyard enough?):

And the dual Road Sign/Graveyard entry:

I typically only give out 1 10 in a challenge, only twice can I ever remember giving out more then 1 and both times I gave out 2. This time I had such a hard time because there were some absolutely creative and amazing photographs that I gave out 4 10's. Three of those were to the 3 photos that got the ribbons and to the 6th place photo. I loved looking at the images in this challenge.

not graveyard enough :) probably would have done worse than the submission.

My entry turned out "unremarkable" but the most significant photo from the visit to the local cemetery came from the section which is not landscaped...

My 2nd place Entry, which my teammates refused to allow me to talk myself out of fearing IR dissenters:

Here is a basic edit of the scene of my entry. I couldn't actually go there at night because this cemetery is basically abandoned and in a very bad part of town, hah! Graffiti, drug bags everywhere, it's really sad.

Here were my other potentials:

Pretty unique place, would have never found it w/o this challenge, another reason DPC rocks :)

Based on the few comments I got I suspect that my alternate might have scored better ...

Technically, mine are not outtakes. I shot these at a different cemetery after the challenge closed. Cemeteries have become a new fascination for me. And, Adam's discovery of and experience at Mount Moriah Cemetery only inspires me to continue the quest.

Entry

Additional shots:

This was the most poignant: no names, no ages, no dates. How many children?

Only C.J.? A child? Doubt the tree was there when the stone was placed.

Until I saw the state of Mount Moriah Cemetery, I thought stones propped up against a tree illustrated neglect.

Anyway, this has been a very inspirational challenge - for me. I know and respect that others found it difficult.

Isn't it interesting, though, how many folks are sharing their outtakes?

Out of space on DPC so here's a belated link to my outtakes

Tate - Your outtakes are a most fascinating study. Thanks for sharing.

Would you answer three questions, please?

1. In your opinion, has the guardian angel's face been vandalized?
2a. LakeView: is that the name of the cemetery?
2b. What is the location of the cemetery? (State/County would be enough info.)

Thanks.

Thanks so much for the very good questions =).

1: No. The statue is made of bronze so it gets weathered pretty intensely.

2. Yes. Lakeview cemetery is in Cleveland Ohio.

I took a long lunch to go shoot this. The cemetery is amazingly beautiful to the point where my wife and I have actually had "dates" there. It is a nice place to go for some quiet. President Garfield is buried there along with some well-knows like Eliot Ness and John D. Rockefeller.

In retrospect, I would imagine the first image of these may have done better in the challenge =/

Thank you, Tate, for the information. Please don't be offended, but until you made me aware of this cemetery, I didn't think Cleveland would be a city I would ever want to visit, but now... :-)

It sounds as interesting as the Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah. And, with your skills, if you have not been to the Bonaventure, I would heartily recommend you consider a visit. Bonaventure Cemetery Info

Again, thank you!

Edit: correct a misspelling.

Ha! I'm not offended. 25 years ago I knew nothing of Cleveland and assumed it was nothing to think of. Fortunately, it has been improving pretty much ever since. It keeps coming up on "best of" lists and there are MANY small businesses, restaurants and the like that are moving it forward. It is a drivable, bike-able, city. Yup there's still some frightening headlines on occasion, but it is certainly under-rated for the most part:
A few more to browse through =)

Oh and BTW, downtown (directly across from Progressive baseball field, there's another cemetery I have yet to photograph but is also pretty interesting looking.

Thanks. That looks like a great one! =)) There is something about statues in cemeteries ... and heck, any cemetery with a decent web page must be a place worth checking out =))
